Considering all the coverage the guy's gotten lately, it might sound a bit unbelievable, but Kid 606 lived up to all the hype. Much "beatier" and generally harder and more abrasive than last I saw him. Very heavily hip-hop influenced. Plus he was playing for about an hour and fifteen minutes. Quite impressive all the way around. Datach'i I liked a lot as well. His stuff didn't vary too much from the album versions, but I guess that's not so much a bad thing. Didn't stay for Pluramon. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Props to the Kid for a pretty amazing set. My favorite songs were the ones with piano, or samples thereof -- which is odd, as piano in electronic music usually "ain't me thang". Because of all the noise fuckery going on around it, that song reminded me *heavily* of early Severed Heads. The gangsta-hop song right after that floored me.

I wish I could say the same, but I was pretty durn bored by his set. There was nothing for me to grab onto, and vice versa.

Pluramon was a great act to doze to -- and I don't mean that in a negative way. The second song they did was just stellar -- like some sort of warped, blurred Joy Division type thing. The rest was pretty neat, kinda in the Kraftwerk "Kraftwerk 2"/Tortoise-y way... Their performance wasn't anything spectacular, but it worked well from upstairs while I was snoozing. :) On a side bar, I got *really* pissed off at the folks on the floor who wouldn't shut the fuck up while Pluramon were playing their first song. If any of you guys heard the asshole that yelled out "SSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH!" -- well, that was me. Shut up, next time. Thank you. :) And for the record, all three acts were approachable and would actually talk to their fans after the show! <IDM ARTIST SHOCKER -- MORE AT 11> ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
