Yes, I'm going to participate in the New York City protests on Feb 15 being organized by United for Peace (with the support and participation of many, *many* other orgs...) - http://unitedforpeace.org/ From what I understand there are protests being organized for that day all around the world (though mostly in Europe and North America, I suppose). I was glad to notice today that the US Green Party is officially supporting this as well: http://www.greenpartyus.org/peace.html -Adam On Tuesday 04 February 2003 3:30 pm, Dubya = Arrogance + Ignorance wrote:

yes here here but, not to give you shit or anything, i'd rather this list was a little oasis from all the worrying and stressing going on in the rest of my life in regard to this war coming up. I want to hear about music here, not billions of people arguing about US imperialism and shit like that. (We've seen that happen before) Frankly, I just think there are too many people on this list to do so (discuss this) effectively and it turns into a big mess rather quickly. I wouldn't post anything political unless I thought it was very very very important! There's no doubt that Bush's War could soon affect all of our lives in a very negative way. Bush isn't acting in the people's best interest, look at everything he has done since taking office. Sure this war could be quick (killing half a million innocent people), the result for US/Europeans could be more 9/11 like attacks afterwards. And then everything escalates and escalates. So to protect the things we care about now, maybe we should consider doing something positive to protect the peace. That's all I'll say... let's get back to talking about music, but let's think about the consequences of this war for oil. http://legitgov.org/action.html WORLDWIDE DAY OF ACTION: Saturday, February 15th, 12-3 PM Pounding the Pavement for Peace julia m <ulia5@hotmail.com> wrote: yes here here but, not to give you shit or anything, i'd rather this list was a little oasis from all the worrying and stressing going on in the rest of my life in regard to this war coming up. yessir, ignoring the harsh cruelties of reality instead of discussing them will do something positive to protect the peace. everyone knows that inaction, silence, and compliance leads to peace. that came off much harsher than intended, but im too lazy to reword it. i'll be in philly on the 15th. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think the people should stand up against this "President", he hasn't been running the country in a responsible way. We've gone from huge surplus to huge deficits. His new budget doesn't even account for the war, occupying Afghanistan, or the war on terrorism. He talks about creating jobs, well his administration has the worst job creation record of any other in the last 58 years - of any party. The tax cut for the rich, means less stripping educational and social programs, and certainly won't stimulate the economy. Bush should go after the real terrorists (Al Qaeda), and work with the UN inspectors in Iraq. Somehow Bush has taken all the good will shown to our country after 9/11 and has somehow turned the world against us. Even some of our most loyal allies don't like the US anymore. Most of our military war planners think this pre-emptive war is a really bad idea, and it will only inflaming the middle east more against us. Even the Joint Chiefs of staff urged Rumsfeld to tell Bush to cool it. Even worse, his administration is trying to slip "Bunker Busters" (which are nuclear weapons) into our military's "conventional" arsenal. The Washington-driven media, has been trying to make us feel ok about using these nuclear weapons. Just so you know, the explosion blows out a crater of radioactive dirt which rains down on the local region with deadly fallout. The UN Inspectors haven't found anything to justify war, so why should we sit back and not question everything and work for peace. I'll be at the Peace Rally in LA on the 15th! --- Brett Dietsch <elph@lawngnome.org> wrote:

I for one am glad that the messages forming this thread have been posted. It was in my intention to participate in the next demonstration against the Bush administration's planned war in Iraq but I wasn't informed about the specifics. The messages and URLs posted here gave me incentive to be much more proactive (arrgh... I actually used the word) about this extremely important issue. I took note of the specifics on the demonstration planned here in Montreal (for the Montrealers that might be on this list: same date as everywhere else, obviously [February 15], Square Dorchester -> Peel/René-Lévesque; starts at 1 PM); I documented myself a bit more; as we speak, I'm printing tracts publicizing the demonstration which I will distribute/display in my Faculty. Etc. etc./more to follow. Spread the word! Say NO to war! g. -- Guillaume Grenier - grenier.g@videotron.ca in space there is no north in space there is no south in space there is no east in space there is no west --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

while i can agree with aspects of this, it has nothing to do with the fact that we're about to go to war with iraq. it has nothing to do with the questionable reasons that my friends and peers are going to end up in places they dont want to be, fighting for a cause they dont believe in. it has nothing to do with the questionable motives behind the actions our government is taking.

we're _both_ in the wrong here. we said we would give them aid if they wouldnt build nuclear weapons to exploit food and energy from other countries. we arent helping them enough, so they're building nuclear weapons. i can see how their cause is "right," really. i understand that they are hungry, but they're going about it in the wrong way. i really do feel for them, and if we take military action against them, i'll also show that i disagree with that as well. these are two separate issues.
quoted 2 lines If you really want to make a difference, donate money so North Koreans> If you really want to make a difference, donate money so North Koreans > can eat.
if you really want to make a difference, post a link, or a phone number, or an address, or anything providing information on donating money to the north koreans instead of trying to tell people they're better off ignoring one cause for another. there is nothing idealistic about taking action for what you think is right. if that statement is incorrect, then please stop sending your idealistic emails containing unrealistic requests. oh. right. send these people a $20 bill and hope it gets there. Although I'm not an active participant in this list, I am an active participant in peace demonstrations. I plan to be out there on the 15th and at every demonstration against the war until it ends. I'm interested in good IDM with a political bend. I just downloaded (but haven't yet listened to) the "Not In Our Name" single from Ninja Tune (does anyone know how I can order a real copy of this, btw?). Does anyone know of any other good political IDM? Thanks. I recently acquired "The Fire This Time" - a 2xCD audio project about the gulf war and the history of the "Iraq situation"... It's pretty good. The first CD consists of various tracks with narration, and the second CD has the music on its own without the narration. More info at http://www.firethistime.org/ The narration is quite informative, though I wish there was, like, a bibliography of sources included or something... The music is good, too. It has a Bola track, "Dog In America", which is exclusive to this release (AFAIK), and remixes *of* Aphex Twin and Orbital. There is also other music by other people which is good too :P ...I'm assuming the Twin and Orbital gave permission for their stuff to be remixed for this project, so that's kinda like they support it, maybe. Anyway, it was good, and I'd recommend it. The only other "political IDM" that pops to mind is Mr. Lif, though he's not exactly IDM - apparently it's nice topical hip-hop. And Muslimgauze, who has passed on, but his work was always consciously reflective of the Middle East and Islam in general, from what I understand. I'm not a big listener of either of these artists, but they're probably worth looking into. -Adam Quoting patrick wojahn <wojahnp@bulldog.georgetown.edu>:
