Bogdan Raczynski the prankster only played for FIFTEEN MINUTES I'm seeing this happen more and more often. When there are four five live acts and djs between 'em, the show can't start at 11pm. Somebody's gonna get squeezed. At a traditional venue. If it's a wherehouse type thing I guess it doesn't matter. It happened here in LA a few months back when Richard Devine played for only 20 minutes after long sets by Phoenecia, Otto and two other acts. The restaurant/bar/club closes at 2am and just as Richard was starting to burn it up, the owner/organizers said 'no more.' The other day at Twine, OST played for only 20 minutes. That was nobody's fault but his, though. Turns out he drove from SFrancisco to LA just for that gig, only to show up at the club at 12:30, a half an hour before they closed. The set he did actually play was some super neat stuff.

Man, I really want shows to go on eariler, especially on weakdays. Matinee style. I don't know if I'm getting old or what, but I like it to show up on time and it seems I'm waiting around alone... a lot! haha Doesn't it seem like it'd be a whole lot different if shows started at 8. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

no kidding. some of us have day jobs and stuff, not to mention being tired from the day job before we even get to the show. i'm all for staying up late on the weekends, but i don't really like to stay out past, say 12 on a weeknight. i got really annoyed at the fact that mira calix played for what seemed like 2.5 hours before takemura and then AGAIN for an hour before finally plaid went on in SF a couple of months ago. not to mention the fact that i thought she sucked anyway. -rachel (aka dj pie) -- piesarenice.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You've got the forces of the rave scene, the indie electronic scene, and oldness/having a job coming all together. Its tough to do shows that bridge the gap, because kids expecting a show come at 8pm, and get sleepy by 12, often kids expecting rave/party flava don't show till 12. I've been trying to do things that start around 8 and go till 3. - cutups ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reading, John" <john.reading@us.didata.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 3:35 PM Subject: RE: [idm] BRAINDANCE live review

you know, I wish more people were down with the getting in early thing. We always plan to start our live acts at around 11 but end up pushing back until 12 or soometimes 1 because people tend to show up really late. It would be great to say "sorry, you missed it" but for the artists sake we tend to wait until theres a nice crowd. Ideally I'd love it if a show started at 9 (giving people time to grab dinner) and people showed up but in NYC it just doesn't seem to be something that will happen. In our case, we don't get the "kids" at all, everyone seems to be between 24 and 30 and employed yet for some reason they just like to roll in super late. adesh http://www.recordcamp.com -----Original Message----- From: cutups [mailto:cutup@andythepooh.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 5:45 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] BRAINDANCE live review You've got the forces of the rave scene, the indie electronic scene, and oldness/having a job coming all together. I think it's called taking a disco nap. You come home, chill, pop a cold one, nap a bit, get up and dressed and presto chango, you're out the door by 11 pm. the thing that pisses me off is there's a DIY venue that i'd like to use for some shows, but they can't do shows after 11pm due to noise issues. its funny because they get tons of kids out for 6-7pm shows. not electronic though, normally. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Record Camp" <lists@activaire.com> To: "cutups" <cutup@andythepooh.com>; <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, June 12, 2002 4:01 PM Subject: RE: [idm] BRAINDANCE live review

No, you're not getting old. I'm 22 and although I can finally go to all the shows I want to, I'm finding my drive to actually attend reduced. Maybe it's just the lackluster electronic shows I've seen, maybe it's the fact that the venues in the twin cities are all geared towards rock shows, but I would love to see shows starting at 6-8 and ending whenever. Nothing kills a vibe more than having to wait for a show to start, and if it's not on a weekend, you KNOW the audience is gonna suck :D derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
