You would be hard pressed to get any definitive information about the Basic Channel/M/Chain Reaction/Burial Mix/Rhythm & Sound collective. The best source for info would be the 1995-96 Basic Channel interview in The Wire magazine. They prefer to keep it low-key. As far as i know there is no official site either. If you type in http://www.basicchannel.com it just brings you to the Hardwax store which is the axis for them. Speaking of which, the new Burial Mix 10", Jah Rule, is fabulous. But I do want to caution on the new Love Joys lp on the basic-channel- related Wackies label. I bought it based on the basic channel link (their ep with Rhythm & Sound was flawless) but was very disappointed to hear straight up poppy reggae with female vocals - no basic channel sounds to be found. btw: If anybody NEEDS to read the Wire interview I can make a PDF of it and make it available for download over the weekend - that is if it isnt already available somewhere else. Please reply privately if interested. -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Actually i was also impressed with the slight change of style on recent Rhythm & Sound releases like Jah Rule, King In My Empire, & March Down Babylon. To me Rhythm & Sound seem to be moving their sound more in a classic vocal dub-reggae direction. Dont get me wrong, they've always had that as a significant influence in their music, but with recent releases their song structures, instrumentation, and even vocals (i.e. cornell campbell, chosen bros) have moved away from the percussive 4x4 format of previous release. A few points that support this conclusion are (1.) rhythm & sound's recent usage of classic reggae vocalists like cornell campbell and chosen brothers and (2.) the fact that Hardwax/Basic Channel collective have started re-releasing classic reggae tracks from the Wackies & PK labels. so the basic channel collective have now have a financial interest in reggae in addition to their musical/personal interest. well maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part because i've been on such a dub-reggae love-fest for the past 6 months but predictions aside, i'm thrilled with the recent rhythm & sound releases and am eager for more! -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
