Agreed Egg.....but there is something else embedded in it that's killer, but I know nothing about music......just a good ear is all I can account for! -----Original Message----- From: EggyToast [mailto:youn0394@umn.edu] Sent: Wednesday, October 03, 2001 4:16 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] Missing

Recently have really gotten back into Tony Conrad "Early Minimalism" box and his "Outside The Dream Syndicate" record with Faust. Question... Anyone know of any recordings out there of the Tony Conrad/La Monte Young/John Cale/Marion Zazeela combo (aside from the one on Table Of The Elements). Apparently La Monte Young is sitting on hundreds of recordings that he won't release, but presumably a few of them got out over the years? There's also a Tony conrad track on a split 10" with Legendary Pink Dots. Forgot the label though. I did hear from a friend several bootlegs from Velvet Underground which were a kind of outtakes, repetition without vocals and including lots of droney John Cale stuff. Along the same shores: Elektro Nova: s/t dble cd (Smalltown Supersound)... One of the best dronerecords ever. John Clyde Evans: lp on Fisheye: a kind of lo-fi Tony Conrad. and off course Charlemagne Palestine:))

You may want to check out the John Cale "New York in the 1960s" series also on the Table of the Elements label (www.tableoftheelemts.com). Thus far, volume 1 entitled "Sun Blindness Music" has been release. At least two more volumes have been promised. The series features archival recordings of Cale/Conrad/Jennings/MacLise/Morrison. I'm assuming you've already seen that "The Well-Tuned Piano" is available straight from Young at http://melafoundation.org/catalog.htm on cassette for a mere $301! Carl T.
