(IDM'ers- while this has been available for a couple weeks now, but I would still like to announce it officially here.) Aspen's "Sugar/Spice" EP (12" vinyl only) release on Emanate ------------------------------------------------------------ The sixth release for Emanate comes from veteran New Zealand producer Bevan Smith recording under his Aspen guise. Aspen has received worldwide acclaim over the past few years for the deep electronica sound featured on his two albums, "Album" and "Are You That Retail Snob?", and for the other releases on his own Involve imprint. On the "Sugar/Spice" EP, Aspen's first release for Emanate, Bevan delivers 6 tracks/28+ minutes of evocative electronica that is both classic and innovative at the same time. Throughout the entire EP you will be enveloped by warm melodic synth lines, deep inviting atmospheres, and dubby basslines accented by slow methodical crunchy percussion. The end result are six tracks of evocative electronica that are both captivating audio journeys and adventures at the same time. Fans of early Aphex Twin, Global Communication, Autechre, Bola will eagerly welcome this release into their collections as if it were a lost classic because this EP is indeed a classic with a retro-melodic electronica sound that's rarely heard these days. "...Aspen's six tracks...all together like a herbstliche Unplugged version of Autechres Amber, only is the sounds still much better, restrained, friendly, verhallter and more fragile, so that one wants to close each individual tone..." - says Thaddi H. of de:bug & CCO (translated) Please see our web site at http://www.emanaterecords.com to hear the new Aspen 12" in streaming RealAudio and learn where you can purchase a copy! i don't know about the associations, since you could probably associate everyone with aphex twin (at least from a media standpoint heh heh), but this is truly a great release. definitely crunchier than the two other aspen releases i have (album and retail snob), but maintains the fine melodies that aspen is known for so i concur, it's really a good thing (tm). if you haven't picked up any aspen yet, you should start here (esp. cos it's an EP) cheers, /derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
