I finally got my hands on a copy of "Soup". (Yeah, yeah. I know it came out two years ago. I took the short bus to school, alright?) Damn. Did I mention "Damn"? This is some amazing stuff. My friends are becoming concerned because I would rather lie in bed with Forcasa 3 on repeat than eat a meal. Is Mauver worth picking up? I've heard that it's a bit of a departure from Soup. -- Kevin | "Philosophy, improperly applied, inevitably Murphy | leads to paralysis." --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

mauver: a departure from soup yes, but this is a good thing. a few cool tracks mixing in distorted vocals, a little more upbeat than soup. one track (i think the last on side b) retains the emotional strength present in soup (great textures). WELL worth the purchase, try to find it on vinyl, the cover art alone is worth the $8. -looking forward to his next full length in early 2001. -mAttis --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Mauver: In order, no it is not worth picking up. And yes it is a departure from Soup, hence my answer to question 1. Like much of the ridiculous output from Skam in recent times, most of the tracks on Mauver (including the galactically stupid Mauver itself featuring Dennis Bourne) are somewhat less than essential. The one track that maybe makes this ep worth having is Vespers, which is very much more in the ambient style of Soup, but that's it. I heard it rumoured (was it on this list?) that Mr. Fitton has completed a new album to be released soon, also in a more experimental style. Given that Soup is also one of my favourite albums, I await it's arrival with bated breath. )Jamesq. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I have to disagree a little bit here. I wouldn't say mauver is _essential_ but it is definately worth picking up in my opinion. It really grows on you and I like all four tracks on the EP (to varying degrees). I agree the standout track is vespers and this track alone makes it worth having. And yes I liked Soup a lot too. ----- Original Message -----

Has anyone else noticed that Pfane Pt 2 off Gnayse is a dead ringer for Robert Miles' piano trance 'classic', Children? David -- "Man - I thought you knew that algebra was all razmatazz. Jeeeez, and with that I must say that my not quite 16 year old daughter is ahead of me in the train-spotting game... I asked a neighbour's visiting cousin to bring along this CD from the UK for me last month, and on first play through, that's EXACTLY what Laura said to me!! ("Children" being a pet hate of ours.)
