Maybe i'm late on this one but the other day I was discovered the new Señor Coconut double-album called "El baile Alemán" and in love with it's cheese filled carib-latino cover beauty. For those who arent familiar with this release, it is an entire album of Calypso/Latino/Mambo/Cuban/Salsa re-interpretations of classic Kraftwerk tracks. Also there is a newer cd single with more Kraftwerk remakes. Time to mambo with the robots! . Señor Coconut y su conjunto: El Baile Alemán cd (Emperor Norton) Tracks: - Showroom Dummies (Cha-Cha-Chá) - Radioactivity (Rumba) - Trans Europe Express (Cumbia) - The Robots (Cha-Cha-Chá) - Neon Lights (Cha-Cha-Chá) - Autobahn (Cumbia Merengue) - Homecomputer (Merengue) - Tour De France (Merengue) - The Man Machine (Baklán) - Music Non Stop (Cumbia) . Señor Coconut y su conjunto: Tour De France/Expo2000 cd (Emperor Norton) Tracks: - Tour De France (Merengue) Radio Edit - EXPO2000 (Mambo) - Tour De France (Merengue) Album Version - EXPO2000 (Mambo Instrumental) For more info & soundfiles check: http://www.emperornorton.com/artists/senor_coconut/index.html Cha-cha-cha!!! -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Haven't heard this one yet, but I remember reading in the press release that Atom Heart's actually moved to Chile? Does anyone have confirmation on that? It was difficult to tell from the context whether they were serious or whether it was all just part of the fun, so to speak. My favorite touches: "y su conjunto" -- reminds me of all those baaaaaad Latin discs I've had to sift through in the past...!15 Exitos!, Mis 20 Favoritas, Vol. 1, etc. Listing the rhythms (merengue, cumbia, rumba) after the individual song titles -- I'm sure he's no Willie Colon, but I bet this'll be fun... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've had this one on constant rotation since I picked it up last week. It's awesome. A total feel good record, one of the highlights of this year so far for me (along with the Savath + Savalas's "Folk Songs For Trains, Trees and Honey" and Arovane's "Tides"). Made me go and buy all the Kraftwerk albums I didn't have on CD yet. Although the lb "Pop Artificielle" CD (which btw is out domestically, on Shadow, in the US) was great I enjoy this one even more. One of my favorite moments is the beginning of his sort of Third World parody of "Autobahn" where he can't get his car started and just starts cursing at it. Andrei "Lance @ Inaudible" wrote:

AFAIK, Uwe has been in Chile for quite some time. I was doing an email volley with him about 2 years ago and as I recall, the server was South American. And the CD *is* quite amazing for several reasons...one of them being that Uwe is using some very cleverly tweaked samples which sound completely acoustic. He made some commentary on this which was posted to Mother in the past month or so. jeff John Bush wrote:

the article is about latin music in general not a latin cd. But for some of his more latin influenced music check out: Senor Coconut - en gran baile* Los Samplers - Descargas Senor Coconut - El Baile Aleman** *this one is hard to get. However, PBE recently was able to get some more and I was able to finally get my hands on a copy of it. So you may want to check with them. Their email is: pbe@Rt66.com **most online shops will carry this one. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://www.madmonkey.org On Fri, 7 Jul 2000, alex rozet wrote:

the vinyl lp has a pretty amusing introduction on it, by "Senor Coconut" himself, that was not included on the japanese import cd. also for the german idm-ers there is a great article in groove about the importance of his use of sampling. this might be available soon (in english) on their website www.groove.de cheers susan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I dunno, if you have any experience with MIDI sequencing and sampling you can tell right away the music's not being played by live musicians. The stiffness and/or exactness of some of the marimba and vibes parts are what gives away the sequencing the most (I have a feeling he intended some of those parts to sound stiff, a sort of Kraftwerkian, machine-like precision applied to instruments which definitely need to be played by human beings). Listen to the percussion interludes in "Trans Europe Express" and "Tour De France" for obvious sample tweaking. God, there's so much funny shit on this album. Andrei Mxyzptlk wrote:

Agreed. Some people were expressing their disappointment that the new one was "all-acoustic" (as indeed I thought as well). Uwe corrected us, saying that it was - in fact - all sampled, oversampled, tweaked and reworked. I find it all that much more amazing in light of that. I thought the most charming aspect of the first Coconut was the nearly seamless transition between acoustic/electronic sounds...when in actuality it is, in fact, Uwe's manipulation which gives the aural appearance of either facet. I always thought he could give Ae lessons in programming (e.g., Schnittstelle) for the obvious timing/drum programming feats, but this kind of stuff really demonstrates that he stands head and shoulders as a programmer/manipulator above a lot of what's out there. Not to mention that he has his fingers in MANY pies with reference to styles (or that he's been around for a relative coon's age). He's just released one called "xxx" (on RI) which has a porno theme - in tandem with "Geez and Gosh" which is his "house" lp dedicated to Jesus. There's also a single floating around with different mixes of 'Tour de France'. I've also caught wind of something in the works which is some type of Michael Jackson "homage" (dangerous ground as Jackson has a history of not appreciating unsolicited references). In addition, he mentioned recently that he was working on something with a more 'classical' motif...he was lamenting that no one really "composes" anymore (i.e., creates electronic music with motifs and symphonic thematic repetition) like Kraftwerk does and that he was/is/has been working on doing something of the ilk.The man is truly prolific. jeff jeff "10,000 people all screaming the same thing at the same time are wrong, even if they're right." dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." This album originally had a Japanese release, which had ten tracks, this domestic release appears to have the same track list. It is awesome stuff. There is also a 12" I was listening to yesterday on Multicolor of "Tour De France" that appeared to have five different versions of that track. Absolutely wonderful, maybe my favorite Atom Heart release yet, totally turns Kraftwerk in on its head: instead of eerie, detached, cold futurism we have soulful, Latin blood-pumping mambos and rumbas. Actually, the tracklists are different. The reiussed version is missing Radioactivity and instead has an "intro" added to the album. Apparently Kraftwerk thought the cover version of Radioactivity was too happy for the content of the song. Uwe tried to explain to them that this would be like a 1st world band prohibiting a 3rd world band from covering the tune, but they insisted. See the New York Times column from July 6th in the art section for more info. semuta ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
