Anyone ever hear of a Seattle jungle outfit called Pigeonhead. I know that whole sentence might make you wanna puke. When mentioned in association with the music industry, the word Seattle alone makes me reach for my (imaginary) gun. But don't blame me..I don't know anything about them. They might be cool. Are they? -CF

Well, it depends if you're referring to seattle residents or Pigeonhead. I don't quite understand your repulsion, although I suspect it might have something to do with our recent 'grunge' situation. I haven't heard of Pigeonhead though. An outfit, eh? Record label/artist? I'll check around.. --brett

One must be suspicious of the record industry at all times. Unfortunately for Seattle, the name of the city has become synonymous with "music industry hype". Every time a half decent band comes out of some smaller city (i.e., not from the big 5 or 6 cities), that city becomes "the next Seattle" (Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Austin, TX, etc) in all the press. So when I hear "Seattle jugle outfit", I think "inane record industry hype". But, again, I don't know anything about them. They are apparently Artists, not a label. If you can tell me anything, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! -CF

It sounds pretty repulsive... In the new issue of Keyboard Mag.... Pigeonhead The Full Sentence "Oddly enough, the elite of Seattle Grunge are closet gospel, soul and funk fans. Members of Soundgarden, Alice and Chains, Screaming Trees, and ex-members of Pearl jam laid down guitar, Bass, And Drums over Pigeonhead's halleljuh-praising Fender Rhodes, hammond B-3, Hohner clavinet, Mattel Optigon, and grand piano........." I'm going to go back to drooling at all the new gear in this issue :) ROB **********LOGIQ'S NEW CD**************** BIG ON MARS 11 Tracks of Electronic Bliss http://www.sinless.com/logiq ****************************************

In reference to pigeonhead being labeled "jungle", let me assure you that they come nowhere near that label. They have released two pleasing, but spotty albums on Sub Pop records which veer more towards a 70's funk by way of Dirty Mind era Prince matched with some downtempo trip-hop grooves. I believe Steve Fisk is involved with the project also, which may pique the interest of a select few, since he released the Express God 12" on Astralwerks. In short, if you're looking for "jungle", avoid Pigeonhead at all costs, but if you see it in a used bin cheap, it might wet your whistle. Bill Cohen tkuveab@grove.iup.edu
