There is obviously a "core" sound/style which the IDM moniker is
actually attached to - but the definition of this becomes very vague.
Reading the introductory stuff, the definition is an extension of the
WARP "Artificial Intelligence" idea. And since WARP have dropped that
phrase from their releases, and have also branched out in a number of
directions (Eg Red Snapper, Link) then the base for discussion
becomes broader. It is healthy to discuss music on every fringe of
this very vague fuzzy set we call "idm", whether it be ambient, funky
stuff, jungle, 313-style techno or whatever.

Agreed. But for this list, I (and doubtless many others) would be
financially a lot richer, and a lot poorer in the sense of
discovering music. I must admit that I share that thanks with the
record labels themselves, particularly the WARP stable, as my
obsession with the label has lead me to buy, and thus introduced me
to material as diverse as Red Snapper, Drexciya, FUSE and even THK.
And this diversification within the record labels we attend to here
(Rising High, Rephlex spring to mind as other rather obvious
examples) leads to an enriching of my record collection, and possibly
even my life, if you can stop yourself choking! :)
So I say carry on, but we would obviously have to stop short of
people posting Miles Davis discographies (or by the same token, block
reviews of the latest Suburban Base releases).
OK enough of my blather, the "I"s have it?
