I kind of disagree with him innovating all that much compared to the Tried By 12 remix type stuff. I really enjoy his stuff, but it's funny that there still isn't anyone except for a few songs on that Funkstorung album that are mixing *understandable* flows with more interesting beats (that I've heard....if there is more please let me know!). The stuff on the Ep is still stuck in that sampled vocals as a sound effect stage, which is nice, and I do enjoy his tracks. However, I'm yearning for stuff that is actually more in the direction Funkstorung (or that one track of the new Kid 606 album, with MIke Patton, which was awesome) went. Those tracks were great because the vocals recorded for the project, and an integral part of the development of the song. Apparently Pref73 is going in that direction for the album, so I'm eager to hear how it turns out. I thought it was funny the warp main page said a while back he was "rebuiling hip hop from the roots up" or something ridiculous like that.....I hardly call sampling other hip hop records building from the ground up. I consider the Mantronix stuff with just the drum machines and the synths one of the few people that could fit that description, actually creating their own beats and not relying on sampling for everything. -Bill
