well, it's not quite as accurate for these two guys lately as is has
been in the past, but it's more of an expression than anything else
anyway. kind of like 'shoegazing' (you know, all those dreary
guirtarists on stage swaying and staring at the floor. they didn't
really *do* anything, but play their music (which is the important part
anyway)).
like you said, there generally isn't much to *see* at an electronic
show. i'm assuming you don't make music yourself (i'm new to the list),
but it's hard to be a one man 'show'. there are no other guys to take
the load off of getting the song out of the machines, so there's little
room for 'performance'. (i'm just talking about one man projects) for
projects with more than one member, well, there's less excuse..but why
bother anyway? it's music.
i do't think knob twiddling is anything to get upset about. i don't
have any knobs on any of my gear, except the mixer and a couple volume
knobs. :) and besides, when the term was coined, the gear probably
didn't have many knobs either, mostly sliders i'd bet. doesn't matter.
it should just stay an album title and that's it. :)
