Every once in awhile you stumble across a CD that to be appreciated has to be heard on a hi fi audio system. That CD in question is Senking (Karoke Kalk KK CD1). This CD compiles all the tracks from the Senking 12" ep plus three additional tracks from the first two kandis vinyl only releases. Now onto the music: Think Pole without the pops and clicks. Think Richie Hawtin djing 20,000 leagues under the sea. We are talking about deep bass and mutated techno beats (as if you were hearing the music under water). I did not fully realize the impact of the album until I turned on my subwoofer that is connected to my home stereo. The overall effect is a very laid back projection of sound. A wonderful album, especially with the lights out and the sub turned up. In a lot of ways it more basic channel than basic channel. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records

Sub-woofers are VITAL, especially to the music we are discussing on this list. I've even got one in my car ... when I stop at an intersection, the whole car *rocks* - only way to travel :-) Sometimes when friends are here, I experiment and take the sub out and they are amazed ::: it's like listening to only half the record. Thy funny thing is, that even though the foundations shake, the sound wave doesn't travel that far. It's an immediate physical thing if you are in the room. I *

irene: a funny story: when i first bought my aphex aural exciter, i was naively running it on *everything* (full bore, too :)) and wondering why i didn't notice much of a change in my studio (monitors through a regular ol' amp). then, at a "party" (with a real soundsystem), i was was playing out an ae/reloadish track I had just recorded and, no word of a lie, kept wondering why the windows on the far side of the room had just startled rattling like you wouldn';t believe. of course i was quickly informed by the club manager that his speakers were having toomuch of a workout during this particular tune and could i please "ahh, turn down the bass, you're going to knock my windows out". it was then that a realized that , *yes*, my aphex ae *was* working at home--the ae'd results just needed to be heard in the right audio situation. "duh" andrew :) Irene McC wrote:

I * You are fortunate then, because sub bass frequencies will normally travel the furthest.... I remember reading somewhere that during WW1 the Germans deployed an exceptionally large gun on the Western Front (ie somewhere in Northern France) and that it was sometimes faintly audible in London.
