02/10/01 while playing Knock Kings 2001 on PSOne I played some IDM tunes as well here's the playlist: -Shuttle 358 (12k) -Kit Clayton (~scape) -Modula Green (FAX) -Sabres of Paradise (Warp) blah blah blah what the heck do you care what I played on my living room stereo last night??? You don't! Nor do I fucking care about what you played on your radio show. If I DID I would have listened and if I listened, I wouldn't need you to clog up the list with this lousy waste of bandwith CAN THE PLAYLISTS PLEASE STOP, THEY'RE USELESS! if you need to share the info with the listeners of your show, TELL THEM to email you PRIVATELY for the f'ing info. They click on a website to access your show, i'm sure on the website it has contact info, no??? WAIT for them to ask you for the playlist instead of clogging up other peeps email boxes. -g "Anything that separates us is junk. Speak for yourself. It's interesting to me to see what plays on various people's shows. I'll tune in once in a while to shows that do plays things I'm curious about. Things I wouldn't have access to otherwise. Moreover, it saves some time when you know which shows you want to try versus the millions of radio shows / stations that now broadcast over the Internet. And best of all, a lot of these online radio show hosts do contribute to this list often by sending new releases lists, reviews, etc. I don't see how this is any worse as the yearly top 10 list, or a simple n.p. one-liner at the bottom of an email. How hard is it to press delete when a message doesn't interest you? Do you expect each and every message from the IDM list to be insightful and important? I'm sure many-a-folks just delete both the playlists, and complaints like yours. You must just HATE getting party flyers on your car's windshield... :) sqrrt ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gilly" <galaxey@sdccu.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: 11 février, 2001 15:05 Subject: [idm] In my living room Playlist 02/10/01

hello. i just want to put in a quick "yes please" to posting radio show playlists to this list. AS A READER OF THE IDM LIST seeing playlists helps me find new artists. if i see list of artists that i love, and then a few that i do not know of, it gives good hints on what to check out. we do not have NEARLY enough reviews here, and reading playlists often puts new and unkown artists (or big ones i have never heard) into some kind of context that gives more of a hint of what they sound like than "autechre are the bomb". this is without listening to the shows.. and the playlists certainly give me an indication if i want to listen to someone's show, which of course leads to the exposure of SO MANY artists that we talk about here. AS A PUBLIC RADIO SHOW HOST (very "me me me") i am assuming most folks posting playlists here simply volunteer their time to do a radio show with very little payback (for what it is worth, promos are nice, but i have never really met a public radio show host that is simply working for the promos). that means they are excited about what they do and want to share it with people (gil, of all people, should be familiar with this need to share :). beyond that, playlists help radio show hosts get listeners and expose people to new music -- which is a FUN FUN thing i think... and, of course, they also help the radio show host *get new music* (or emails about new music) to play for people. oh, and for me, i just like to see that there are other people in this world doing the whole silly radio thing with similar tastes to me. no joke, it is a fucking pain in the ass to find people that like the same kinds of music as i do.. it is even harder to find people that host radio shows that play music like i play, and this list has allowed me to see that im not alone in doing what i do (or did, i guess). PERHAPS AS AN ARTIST it has to be nothing but ENCOURAGING for list members in bands to be reading through email and see their names pop up on playlists. in so many ways, this can only help them, and i think most of the playlists that get posted here PLAY THE MUSIC OF THE PEOPLE N THE LIST. A LITTLE SUGGESTION someone once wrote me and asked me to put "PLAYLIST" as the first word of posts with playlists. they were really nice about it, so i did. by doing this, i allowed folks to run filters against those emails. too, too tired, chris. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
