whoa, just got off of long rant against errol from astralwerks, maybe he should post it here. a very quick response to my rant post on one of the reasons it sucks to live in america, aka the dominance of astralwerks. i really wont reply to any more letters about that rant, except you, errol(lucky). i stand by what i say, and i love it if any debate has been touched off by this, it is what we need. you need to be aware of what the label "electronic music" meens to most americans. and, as i have been informed by someone, lets call him "flynn", we are eletists for ripping on commercial dancemusic. ta-ta, off to enjoy the weekend and such. benine "my escalator stops for errol" _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. You see non-Americans we have our troubles over here too. Sure, we don't have to worry about scarcity of food, invasions, or ethnic cleansing. But damn it we will not stand for commercialized electronic music!!! Seriously, it sounds like the "dominance problem" may be due to your reliance on buying cds, or maybe a lack of quality record stores (avoid chain stores) in your area. There are more than enough labels out there releasing quality music. You just have to look for it, and it doesn't always come out on cd. So if you don't already have some turntables, you better get some.

Many years ago Astralwerks did have most of the best artists. That's not necessarily the case anymore. That's not slamming Astralwerks, electronic music has grown and with it tons of little labels have sprung up all over the place.

I think it's really different for everyone.

Who cares? Are we all suppose to like the same thing? You like what you like. I never feel elitist because I boycott (or purchase) certain types of music, food, beer, etc. etc. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! this is all about perception, man. if cher put out a "cher vs. fatboyslim" album, and you say you like electronic music, and someone says to you:"like cher's new album?" what do you say? how do you feel? do you tip your hat to a moron? and, its the fact that there is no realization going on, dood. all we get in return for our criticizm of commercial crap is " your stuck up" or "your an eletist". and it is ONLY in electronic music that this happens. i like hip hop too. but, somebody who listend to No Limit records stuff doesnt call me stuck up because i listen to the roots or shadow. and some woman doesnt call me a fucknin eletist because i read dostoyevsky instead of king or clancey. yeah, there are no decent record stores here. i take that back, there are, but what they are told is that america wants to buy this electronic music. if i went in there and said "you need to stock hefty records stuff, man" they would say "no one would care, no one knows about it, no one would buy it". ARGHHHHH! do you hear me on this? i dont care about what i have around me, by god you should see my credit card bill for records that i have ordered from everyconer of the globe (the internet can be credited with most culture i indulge in). i just wish that americans knew the truth, there is tons more out there. tons. benine "my escalator chages spellings for no one"

I would say simply say "no", and if I was in the mood I might go into detail what I do like. You don't even have to take extremes like "Cher". I absolutely DESPISE trance, and many people could assume you like that if you say you like techno. Almost any techno that gets played in a club, chances are I dislike it. I would probably have to play them a sample of what i do like.
quoted 1 line how do you feel? do you tip your hat to a moron?> how do you feel? do you tip your hat to a moron?
I don't think someone is a moron, because they don't know electronic music very well. They may know a lot of great music that I don't know.

Are you an elitist if you like speed metal, and not classic rock? Or if you like west coast hip hop, but not east coast? You like what you like, why worry about labels or what others think.

I understand very well. I use to have to drive 100 miles every other week to buy records, until I opened a shop with some friends. Luckily I near some good shops. And these days you can check out a lot of the artists or tunes you are curious about on the net.

i hear you load and clear, had to drive the point not just home, but through the garage with this one. you get the idea, though.

THATS IT: MY "PAY IT FORWARD" PLAN!!!! MAKE TAPES AND GIVE THEM OUT TO THE MISINFORMED THAT SHOW PROMISE OF BEING SAVED!TO COMBAT THE COST OF PRODUCTION, TAPE OVER ALL YOUR FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS AND UB40 TAPES FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, IT WILL ADD NOVELTY TO THE IDEA> FUCKKK!!! I AM A GENIOUS, ELITIST FUCK!

i havent run into this problem. if some one is ignorant enough to assume that i listen to shit music because of the popular label associated with it, than, yes, in my book they are morons.

WHOA DOOD! Dont take it there, i can spend days on hip hop alone. And shit, dont make me bring BOC into this (dont fear the reaper, man)! joke, joke...hahaa. no, you kind of have a point, but i addressed it in the following paragraph.
quoted 9 lines and> > and > > it is ONLY in electronic music that this happens. i > > like hip hop too. but, > > somebody who listend to No Limit records stuff > > doesnt call me stuck up > > because i listen to the roots or shadow. and some > > woman doesnt call me a > > fucknin eletist because i read dostoyevsky instead > > of king or clancey.
i'll provide this little TRUE story: i had my own late night radio show at this college station right? well, one night i go in there and these rave kids are there dancing in the studio with the monitors blazzing. i was ticked but nice, since i didnt know anyone at the school and didnt want to make imediate enemys. so, while they finnish up, i start dragging out my records so i can log my setlist. and you could see the fucking lights go off in their heads: RECORDS=ELECTRONIC=US. So i get the standard ever present, earth destroying, non-biodegradiball flyer for a rave. these kids are called the "sugar kiss krew", or something, and i just kind of polite as possible handed it back to them and said that it wasnt my scene. so, then comes the retard grilling of "what is your scene? why dont you like trance? have you really even been to a rave?" i answer very honestly to these pointless questions:"dont have a scene. trance is boring and repetative. yes, i have been to a rave". then, as the "sugar kiss krew" are walking out of the studio and right as i flip my mic on, the female "krew" member turns around and says "FUCKING SNOB!" then i get flipped off by another krew member. how "PLUR" is that????

Another thing that bothers me: the internet completly changed our culture, no doubt. but, if we are supposed to be talking to eachother like any other type of communication, then why do we use spell check and shit? ANOTHER CUO! NO MORE EMAIL SPELL CHECKING! LETS BE REAL! THERE IS NO PERSONALITY TO PERFECTION! just a side thought, really. but, no shit, my life with out this keyboard=very different
