Didn't see a :) or a ;) to get your
"tone of voice" in this email, but,
if you are truly serious, Juan Atkins
would be the last person you'd want to
read your email below. Why? Well,
Atkins was one of the original techno
innovators and, when asked about the
state of techno these days, said that
his worry was that people would listen
to music such as that in movies like
Mortal Kombat and think that that was
techno. A lot of people who think they
are making techno are simply retreading
the rave path of 1990. Listen to hard house,
much of it is simply rave music at a slower
tempo. People who are listening on a deeper
level (like IDM listers, for example) are going
way beyond/deeper than the Fatboy Slims,
and Chemical Brothers et al, but you have to
keep in mind that for people who are more
accustomed to listening to Celine Dion, Shania
Twain et al, something like Chemical Brothers,
to them, *is* techno. And something like Mortal
Kombat's music would have the same effect thusly.
