Audiomulch, as you should all know, is a fantastic free granular synth (amongst other things). However, in terms of realtime (read : live) performance, it lags severely, meaning I have to "approximate" (read : wild guess) my knob turnings and hope I end up with something close to intended... I found the same to be true of granulab (actually granny was even worse) For those interested I use a Doepfer Drehbank to control all my software (Reality and Audiomulch). Anyways, my question to you all... is there a true, actually-real-time granular synth out for the pc (win9x preferred...) In fact, is there one out there for any platform? If audiomulch was just a bit more responsive it would be insanely killer. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Kid606 uses a few different things - I was talking to him after his set at a show last year... Native Instruments Reaktor lets you build anything - kid is sponsored by them (well he said he was, but he also came across as a jokester) - I've used the demo and have really liked it. He also uses PLUGGO - which is a collection of plugins that have some granular synthesis to them (I believe). And lastly, he used a Korg Kaos Pad as a controller/effects processor with his Mac laptop. :) I was working on a track last night and needed to destroy some audio - so I was using Granulab... man, if you slide one of those sliders a bit far, the app goes crazy and LOCKS up and requires me to force quit - that would suck in a live situation. The only thing I've used a computer on stage for was running MusiNum - a frctal music app - which just generates midi and is very stable. Good Luck! Granulab is useless for live work, its too delayed, but regarding your 'lock-up', Press Q and it will stop playback and all will be fine. It says it in big bold letters on the authors website, he was sick of people complaining about this when they only need to press a key :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
