I think the bros are starting to sound like they needed new sounds
and ideas badly. They seem to be stuck in their electro-hip hop loops/
some miscallaneous acid twiddlings/vocal samples stolen from the 80's
rap LP's rut by now, with some guitar bits to add to the street
credibility ;)
To be honest, the Sabres mix doesn't surprise me either: exactly the
same banging electro dub affair we have learned to know and love (?) -
let's just drag Weatherall away from his mixing console and give him
a good vacation for a while :) The Underworld mixes sound good for the
first one minute, but then you start to get bored... Too much of a good
thing, I guess.
It's funny that the Chem Bros are the darlings of the British indie pop
press at the moment, they love to hang out with 'rock' stars, everybody
wants to have their records remixed by them, but their success starts
to sound like a (happy) mistake... And does anyone else think that
Simons and Rowlands look exactly like Wayne and Garth from 'Wayne's
World'? Rawk'n'rawl, we are not worthy, huh huh huh... :)
