< I'm going to have to pipe in and say that I think Richard Devine's last show here systematically dismantled what Autechre played last night, then broke each little piece with a flying suplex. > The Richard Devine show I am refering to was the one at O2. I think he has played a show since then. I have heard several performance by him on CDRS, but I usually get bored of them after 15 minutes. < Autechre was alright last night, but I wasn't really murdered as hard as I expected. I like most of the new album, I think their older albums like Amber are pretty crappy, but their set last night just seemed ... enh. > I think everyone of their albums are pretty solid. Tri Repetae would probably be my favorite. Amber is pretty awesome. My least favorite thing they put out would be Ep7.
quoted 1 line The beats sucked last night.> The beats sucked last night.
No complaints here. < If some kid had been up there with turntables playing records with no beatmatching, and the results had sounded exactly like that, people would have been throwing things at his head. > Hardly ... but hey isn't non beatmatching Djing what IDM djs are all about. MANY IDM people I have talked with don't appreciate good dj skills. < I liked how harsh and almost power-electronics-ish they'd get, but the experience as a whole was underwhelming. > I wasn't overwhelmed but I certainly had a very enjoyable evening. I thought Autechre was very intriguing. I missed some of the melodies from past tunes but it was still a great night, and look forward to seeing them again next week. < I thought that DJ set had more interesting combinations of sound. (This is someone's cue to leap in and explain to me that I'm obviously just a musical illiterate who is, unfortunately, not intelligent enough to appreciate the complexities of trainwrecking for an hour.) > Many of the Dj Sets were pretty unspectacular, but I thought Russell's set was really interesting. I've never heard anyone go from IDM to grindcore/death metal, and some of the noise he was playing sounded like old Skin Chamber/Controlled Bleeding - "Swallowing Scrap Metal" tunes. Cylob - Industrial Folk Songs was cool! I never really have high expectations for djs when I go to IDM events, so I wasn't disappointed. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
