IDM Classic ! Definitely one of my all time favourites ! So much lush, funkiness, chilled ambience and everything mixed together in one great album... sometimes I like more 76:14, but both are a must haves ! still awake, but I'll go now before I fall asleep in front of my pc bye rob

From the All-Music Guide: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/x.exe?p=amg&sql=A242458 A stunning first full-length for the Pritchard/Middleton duo, A Collection of Short Stories charted the dark side of the ambient-techno coin long before many had been turned on to the music at all. Alternating the automated-machinery chug of tracks like "Teq" and "Ahn" with more sweeping (but similarly dark) moods on "Peschi," "Rota Link" and "1642 Try 621," the album provides the soundtrack to a night in a possessed auto factory; hissing steam and banging metallic percussion punctuate the moods effectively, while an included book of short stories gives the music a focus if desired. Even the lighter, dreamier side which would later appear on Global Communication releases is given airtime on the ethereal "Le Soleil Et La Mer." Unjustly slept on when first released by Infonet, A Collection of Short Stories was reissued in America in 1997. -- John Bush, All-Music Guide .John.

the only way this makes sense to me is to consider it to be referring to the length of time it took to get picked up for wider release, and that it's 'slept on' because some people don't have it/can't find it. here in the san francisco bay area, which is not normally known as a techno freakdom, copies were definitely not collecting dust on the shelves. everybody i knew who got this at the time loved it and talked about it, even the housey trax0rs at the record store. though parts of it are dated now, it's a wonderfully well rounded aggregate. eric onnow: sql install

There is a funk version of the 2001 theme "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (sp?) on Cecil Taylor's label from about '78 -- you gotta play this when installing SQL, SMS, or any other heady Microsoft package. That is the only way to complete the ceremony and it is bundled as an mp3 with the last service pack. If your setup program doesn't hear this track, it will stubbornly refuse to be chill with Y2K. solenoid

The Also Sprach Zarathustra funk version was by Deodato, and when I installed the beta of Windows 2000, the install program played "I want to fuck you in the ass." So I think you got it confused spunky! kent williams -- kent@avalon.net On Fri, 22 Jan 1999, solenoid wrote:

SF bay not known as a techno freakdom? Huh?

Isn't that on the first Deodato album on CTI? Worst use of Strauss: that Full Cycle or Dope Dragon track that every jungle DJ was playing last summer. EVERY one had it and would play it even if the DJ that spun before them did. Don't you love rambling posts?
