i agree totally, but this statement makes me think of the Ensoniq FIZMO which i saw a few weeks ago on close out at GUITAR CENTER for 499$, that synth didnt try to emulate anything, it was very digital very "bleepy and bloopy", and it didnt sell well at all. I think alot of musicians are stuck on this "analog enthusiast" binge right now. It will wear off, and soon people will be paying 2000 bucks for a Yamaha dx-7 when the digital synths begin to gain popularity and the analog synths are "old" again? So grab a dx7 for 400 bucks while ya can hehhhahaa Its like the tr808, in like 89 my step dad bought a 808 for like 350 bucks, everyone was making music with those machines cuz they were cheap, so what happened now you cant get a 808 for under 800 bucks man,...same with old analog Moogs, cheap a few years ago, shunned by the industry now,...everyone wants them, i bought my moog like 6 years ago for 300 bucks, i see em on ebay all the time for 1400 bucks... its a cycle... Does that make sense? Seiously though...come on, Oberheim is releasing a virtual analog!! the one company that was a staple of mass-produced true analog has gone to the dark side! Granted virtual machines are cheaper these days and easier to upgrade via firmware, but this is a sad sign. hopefully this fad will pass and synth designers will start exploring new modes of synthesis (although I'm sure just about everything now will be computer based) Andby the same token, hats off to alesis for producing a real analog machine. I'm curious how it sounds. Of course you have to remember that ROMPlers will always drive the market because most people only need a piano, organ, strings/pads, and flavor-of-the-month synth sound, without any real tweakability. we should all be cursing the Korg M1 (except its finger snap:) -Gil (looking for a TG or SY machine... ) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
