Seiously though...come on, Oberheim is releasing a virtual analog!! the
one company that was a staple of mass-produced true analog has gone to the
dark side! Granted virtual machines are cheaper these days and easier to
upgrade via firmware, but this is a sad sign.
hopefully this fad will pass and synth designers will start exploring new
modes of synthesis (although I'm sure just about everything now will be
computer based)
Andby the same token, hats off to alesis for producing a real analog
machine. I'm curious how it sounds.
Of course you have to remember that ROMPlers will always drive the market
because most people only need a piano, organ, strings/pads, and
flavor-of-the-month synth sound, without any real tweakability.
we should all be cursing the Korg M1 (except its finger snap:)
