i meet someone last week that works in some capacity at trent reznor's nothing studios in new orleans. she told me that mr. reznor give her a load of vinyl records and a lesson in _recycle_. her job? to find decent drum loops and funk samples, edit them, and catalog them. why? they're going to appear in the next nin album. using samples and breaks is one thing, but having someone else discover them? trent's just a hip hop poser! when another pal of mine played some tracks from _drum'n'bass for pap_, she stated, "that sounds like the stuff trent is working on for the new album." i thought this bit of gossip was both funny and sad. had to blab it. grant.

Ah, it's nice when you're rich.... BTW: reznor did the same thing on the last album (the downward spiral) except he had a catalogue of 3000 samples from horror films... onnow: v/a trajectory infinite (switch) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong" For reviews, interviews, art & trash http://www.on-it.net/~aaron/ aaron@defiant.on-it.net

Well, I guess if I had the kind of money at my disposal that Trout does, I'd hire someone to do shit jobs like that too. ;) Then he can sort through the loops she thinks are "good" and find the real gems. | E r i c | [mail] franse@engr.arizona.edu | | F r a n s | [web] http://engr.arizona.edu/~franse | "Make the events occur that you want to occur" - The Black Dog

I'd sit her next to the other naked girl with the job of sorting out green M&M's. Tax writeoff? You betcha!

In fact, why even bother making the music? Just have someone else do it and sit back and take the credit. _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

Wasn't our ol' friend Richard James claiming to do that for a while? I mean, not having someone else write HIS music, but writing music for all his friends.... ? :) That rumour dates back to a good afx rumour vintage of 1994, around the same year that people claimed he ate acid like cereal, had over 400 hours of unreleased material on DAT, and a few others.... didn't he know prince charles and di too? On a more personal note..... aphex and squarepusher got loaded one night, and wrote a few tracks together. There's currently no plans for an "Expert Knob Twiddlers 2" (I'll leave the sequels for Fax Records) but it's possible they'll be released at some point..... :) (oh, and the earliest time we'll be seeing the Caustic Window lp will be in October.... it's been put off for Sam and Valley, cylob, bochum welt, and some new japanese artist.... grr... names names! Looks like a good summer lineup!) onnow: herbaliser "blow your headphones" (ninjatune) Lame Thread Prevention in Effect: Aaron Michelson --------------------------------------------------------------------- aw-teck'r (autechre) "Everything you Know is Wrong" For reviews, interviews, art & trash http://www.on-it.net/~aaron/ aaron@defiant.on-it.net

It seems to me like the guy is just trying to increase his pallate of sound by having himself and others finding samples.

i'm quite sure one late mr. warhol would have something to say about the subject... then he did his multiplied picture-stuff he used to do the boring copying himself, but as finance allowed it, hired other people to do it for him. he just picked the colours, i think, and the pictures to-be-copied. the result was the same (at least to him) and if i remember right, he later hired someone to fake his autograph to the works... he never even touched 'his' own works! (i read these from a aw biography some 6-7 years ago, so i may make this up, thought) and let's leave the talking about the artistic merits of mr warhol out of this ml... :) on a (somewhat) related note, i find it interesting that nin and marilyn m (in addition to some others) generate so much hatemail in this ml (btw, i really don't care, i'm totally ignorant...) i mean, considering that, they must be doing something right.... arf arf 1E23*;) teemu np: coldcut:'journeys by djs' :::: e-mail tkorpipa@siba.fi :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::: ruumen: http://www.siba.fi/~tkorpipa/ruumen.html ::::::::::::::: 'You only got one finger left and it's pointing at the door' - beck -
