I would either splurge for the 17" or wait for the updated,
aluminum-enclosed 15" that *should* be announced soon-ish. In addition to
the aluminum enclosure, it should have all the new goodies that the 17" and
12" share: AirPort Extreme, Bluetooth, FireWire 800, etc. Maybe it'll even
have the self-adjusting keyboard light, just for added toy value.
Don't get the 12", though: the lack of L3 cache and limited RAM ceiling are
likely to become impediments for your A/V work at some point.
I'm in the same boat. I hate waiting. But the 17" is so very pricey...
