SG was all about having a good time. that's why i loved it and loved playing it. it always seemed to get people out onto the deadest of dancefloors. formulaic, definitely. in the end it got just as bad as 2step: re-releasing the same track with a few more samples, or different samples altogether over the same beat and bassline. see double99's 'ripgroove' for an example. but it was just silly fun music. definite hardcore roots, i agree. you could tell the good-time goofyness by the stuff that was coming out: a monster speedgarage bootleg of prince's 'when doves cry', a SG cover of the stones 'bittersweet symphony', hendrix 'crosstown traffic', and then all the original anthems, all the mixes loop da loop was doing, van helden's janet jackson remix...ok i'm getting all nostalgic. i guess i don't understand why speed garage met such a quick demise, and 2step, which seems a whole lot less fun and danceable, has taken off. guess it's just a matter of 'taste', as with most things of this nature.

what...? techno to me means the hard bangin stuff. oliver ho, cari lekebusch, adam byer & drumcode records, etc. stuff that would confuse yuppies or give them a headache or make them cry. ah well. i just love the whole multi-definition genre thing, don't you?

poostep's big in dallas? i'm sorry, man. it's getting big here in san francisco, but it still seems a bit underground, and very closely tied with the d'n'b scene. usually it's a 2step dj or 2 as an opener at some of the d'n'b club nights, then the d'n'b guys play. and there are a couple of 2step weeklies in the smaller clubs that i'll never ever go to as well...but for the most part sf is still a house/trance (er, 'progressive'?) town. thankfully, the idm scene seems to be steadily growing here. hooray for that. -z --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
