P.W.O.G. remix for the golden palominoes...
Is anyone out there familiar with the group "The Golden Palominoes"? They have just released a single ep of remixes...for a song "prison of the rythym" there are five mixes...i think...one is the original...one is a 15:00 mix that is pseudo ambient with a hip hop back beat...and there is one remixed by P.W.O.G....it sounds pretty good but I was wondering what kind of group the golden palominoes was... is it just some weak "alternative" music...or is it something better...or much worse... when i asked about them at the record store...i was given funny looks and they said with a slight laugh..."no....we got rid of their stuff long ago" is that a sign that i should not even waste the time to find out...or are the record store people just morons? any info would do.. thanks, later, jasonosaj. Well, you'd have to look pretty hard to find a group that's more diverse than the Palominos. Basically they're a revolving door of top-notch musicians who team up in different combinations for different albums. The group's mainstay is drummer Anton Fier; he appears on every album (5? 6? I forget how many they have out.) Their musical output runs the gamut from downtown NY jazz to country rock to a 4AD-ish sound on their latest album, which contains the single you mentioned. Personally, I find all their work to be interesting, but not essential listening. This is one of those cases where the total does not equal the sum of the parts. If you're still interested, though, I'd recommend their second album, "Visions of Excess," which has some great vocals by Michael Stipe, Syd Straw, and John Lydon. -- Mark Turner mturner@netcom.com
