Hi all, The 1995 9-track IDM compilation CD "Threads" is now available for free download here: http://unother.net/idm.threads/ Various Artists "Threads" Label: "Intelligent Dance Music" Cat.no.: idm001 1. Quanta "Space" 2. lee.fogel "Interstellar" 3. Induction "Dusk" 4. Seofon "Scharae" 5. DAC Crowell "N.Am.Skywave" 6. Tempest "Source Safe" 7. TV-99-AD "Mother G" 8. Xigma-Phi "Tam-Tam" 9. Artificial Paradise "Godwater" My favourites are tracks 1 (Quanta "Space") and 6 (Tempest "Source Safe"), I played those tracks on my collage radio show back in 1996-1997. I think it's a brilliant album, very ambient but that's not a bad thing IMO. If any of the featured artists doesn't like this free download thing then please get in touch with us and we will remove the mp3 immediately. But then the CD is sold out since long so... FYI, the artists had to pay in order to get the CD produced, but they didn't get any money back if I remember correctly, there were some bad feelings involved. Maybe also a reason why there never was a follow-up (or were there? I left the list in 1997...). I just submitted the compilation info to discogs.com too, it wasn't even listed there... I enjoyed memory lane that you presented. I like to find as much IDM from all of yesterday's years as possible as there are a lot of unfound classics out there...if that makes any sense. Also, I strongly believe that people should look to the past to recreate the future...which is what is being done anyway...in my honest opinion. Sincerely, Fred Collins Johan <antioxidant@glocalnet.net> wrote: Hi all, The 1995 9-track IDM compilation CD "Threads" is now available for free download here: http://unother.net/idm.threads/ Various Artists "Threads" Label: "Intelligent Dance Music" Cat.no.: idm001 1. One of the interesting facets of this is that of providing a sort of historical artifact/barometer in a rapidly shifting and multiplying genre/sub genre. One of the ongoing arguments on the ambient list is the plasticity of the term 'ambient'. It's always fun to be reminded of a time when idm, ambient and techno were not as rigid categorically. And notions of all of those sub-sub genres has changed as well - trance was once not a hated term (I would add, though, that trance 'then' seems to bear little resemblance to what it later became. jeff -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Johan <antioxidant@glocalnet.net>

skeefy re-forwarding to entire list for the benefit of sharing: why no, of course it's not bad -- i haven't even listened yet; i was saving it to play it raw and fresh on my radio show this friday evening at midnight EST on whus.org what i meant is that as the cultural curators of the BLEEDING FUCKING EDGE, mate, we have a duty now to the future of chinstrokery to look down on all forms that have come before our perception of now as 'then' and look instead towards the brick wall we are heading to at innovative speeds; that is, the future. 1995? never heard of it. yesterday's tracks? forget em. as they say, the past is dead. vive le past! and pass the drinks. Hey idm-list! My band, HappinessIsHereToStay is playing this Friday in Brooklyn. Are we, and those playing with us, ?idm?? I?d say so. We do experimental/melodic beat/sound based fun experiments with guitars/casios/drumachines in a bit more of an organic way, but honestly, shouldn?t that be a logical extension of said genre? More importantly than us, Lucky Dragons from Providence, RI are headlining. They are absolutely an interesting point to all who follow ?idm.? Coming from the home of LoadRecords/Lightning Bolt/PaperRad and all the ?new style? American art of strange-brain-matter, they have somehow found a glitched out, computer driven voice for this new style of performance/expression/art. http://www.myspace.com/luckydragons The last time I saw them they had audience members holding various wires, crossing hands and layering, allowing new sound paths to cross different bodies, triggering different sounds. Pretty amazing. Anyway, if you come out, introduce yourself! My name is ?nat.? Friday, May 19th $3!!! @ The Lucky Cat http://www.theluckycat.com 245 Grand Street L to Lorimer/G to Metropolitan. Across the street from the Trash bar. 8pm(sharp!)-10:30 LittleFuryThings records pwoudly pwesents? (3rd = first/1st=last) 1. Lucky Dragons (stupor balance of organic/laptop swirling smiles. from providence) http://www.hawksandsparrows.org/ http://www.myspace.com/luckydragons 2. HappinessIsHereToStay (nyc duo of keys/guitar and drumachiney, fun and silly and tear-jerky) http://www.littlefurythings.net http://www.myspace.com/littlefurythingsrecords 3. Radioshock (zany solo guitar/key/vocal all-at-once madness) http://www.radioshock.org *There is a show after us at the LuckyCat that night, so, seriously, tunes must start as early as 8pm.. kid you not, so don?t try to kid a kidder, kiddo! *To friends, we booked this show ourselves, and did our best to keep the price down, so we?d particularly appreciate seeing you there, gosh-damn-it!
