"Does anybody feel that way" ? Yes, Warp records: http://www.discogs.com/release/10194 While I'm no Warp fanboy, I'd say the Warp influences comp is pretty dead on as far as the roots of idm go. Nothing comes out of a vacuum, as mentioned by many here. And the Donna Summer / postrock analogy is actually not too far off. Disco is pretty hot with bedhead hipsters nowadays. Yeah, ~disco~. As a DJ I've evolved into an entirely un-ironic Disco DJ. Well, Disco and compatible old-school house. I figure that since I'm old enough to have been around during it's heyday, I can do that. It's not really on-topic for IDM, but there are great disco tracks to play. Sometimes, obviously, the tracks are dated, but that's what edits are for. If the bedhead hipsters are into it, great, but when they've moved on to the next flavor of the moment, I'll still still be carrying the torch, because "Go Bang" rules, and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Inner Life still brings tears to my eyes. Quoting Kent Williams <chaircrusher@gmail.com>: Plus, house came out of disco. it's not electro-derived in origin, like techno is. Just wanted to clarify that. Later forms, like acid, certainly do show electro influence. Hi Kent! -MT

Speaking of disco and Donna Summer - the Jason Forrest (previously known as donna summers) - "the unrelenting songs of the post 1970s disco crash" is a damn fine album. hard and unrelenting percussion tapered with slick (yet sped up) disco riffs. highly recommend. it's on sonig Peter Becker wrote:

His contribution to the Irregular series is solid as shit, too. Nice take on Hells Bells by AC/DC on it. The 12" might be long gone (can't remember how limited it was), but I believe the first three records in the series were collected on a cd. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
