"Does anybody feel that way" ? Yes, Warp records: http://www.discogs.com/release/10194 While I'm no Warp fanboy, I'd say the Warp influences comp is pretty dead on as far as the roots of idm go. Nothing comes out of a vacuum, as mentioned by many here. And the Donna Summer / postrock analogy is actually not too far off. Disco is pretty hot with bedhead hipsters nowadays. Yeah, ~disco~.
