See, I'm more inclined to agree with this sort of thing. At the very
least, the stuff that's coming out is either just not interesting
enough to get some huge conversation going about it, or people are
just too lazy to talk about what they think is pretty hot shit.
I mean, there really is very little actual discussion about music on
this list. There's talk about who's playing live when, and about new
tracks that whoever has put up for other people to listen to, but
apart from that, there isn't a whole lot going on.
I'm sure a lot of this is just because there's so much stuff coming
out. Back in the day, it was like hey, new Aphex is coming out next
month, let's talk about that for at least a month beforehand, and at
least a month after it comes out. Then, let's get ready for the new
Autechre that's due out, and the new Squarepusher that will be out a
few months after that. Oh, and all three were on Warp. And that was
okay.
Now, there's just a gazillion things coming out every week. And it's
hard to get a group of people who really agree on whether something is
really awesome or it sucks. A bunch of people like it, some people
hate it, and that's all there is to be said about it. For the most
part.
I'm maybe generalizing here. Just killing some time before my 6:30 meeting.
