Hi all, Wanted to ask your opinion.. First of all, for a small, portable, inexpensive controller how do you rate the Oxygen 8? Also what are your feelings about the Midiman Ozone. It has a 24 bit soundcard built in it. On my laptop, the soundcard sucks, so I have to get a new one anyway. Would you suggest getting the ECHO indigo card and the Oxygen 8, or the Ozone with the built in card? Or would you suggest something else? thanks much, Eric eric@secretbeach.net www.secretbeach.net

Do you want low latency softsynths, or a recording interface? the ECHO card will give you lower latency with music production. The Ozone will give you a more "all in one" package that woudl be fine for recording, but not so much for using softsynths due to the overhead that USB takes. In my opinion, usb soundcards just "aren't there yet." And probably won't be, since FW soundcards are on the market and doing a good job. If you want more octaves, edirol makes a good controller, too. I have an Oxy8 and it's been fine for me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

If you've got 1 usb slot and 1 pc card slot then you also could be set. But yeah, if you only have USB then you're kinda stuck. Well... usually you have FW in that case, too, but. whatever. How's the latency for stuff using the ozone? I've heard conflicting things, which is why I didn't jump on recommending it. derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I use the Edirol PCR A30 and find that I end up leaving the Digi 002 Rack at home. There is a little drop in quality from the soundcard comparing any keyboard interface to the 002, but it's much more portable and easy to use. I haven't noticed any major latency issues with the change to USB with one exception and that is using "audio in" and routing it through Pro Tools to effect the sound source (voice, live drums). But that's to be expected... -----Original Message----- From: EROTH001@aol.com [mailto:EROTH001@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, May 19, 2004 6:28 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Question about Oxygen 8 or Ozone Hi all, Wanted to ask your opinion..
