nah, it's basically drum & bass with a smattering of slower-tempo'ed stuff. 'sonar circle' is the drum & bass alias of dominic stanton, who also records as 'domu' for 2000 black, archive, visions, skindeep, delsin (a killer remix of aardvarck) etc. the debut domu lp is about to drop on archive, highly highly recommended (even more so than the sonar circle stuff) but i still think his finest moment is the 2000 black 12": 'dressed to ill' and 'snake eyes'. blew my head off for a long time, and continues to do so - very deep and futuristic stuff. cheers, tom :: tom churchill :: emoticon recordings :: http://www.emoticonrecordings.com :: t: +44 (0)7976 898514 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I totally agree with Tom. I can't wait for the Domu LP to come out!!! Really top notch material!! All the Domu singles I have bought have been great, especially the 2000 Black release. The last two Sonar Circle releases on Reinforced have been great! Also look out for releases on Archive & Neroli Records. If you guys have been sleeping on this label time to start trainspotting this stuff! I can't wait to hear the Delsin release with the Nubian Mindz and Domu remixes. That sounds like a serious 12"!! --- Tom Churchill <tom@emoticonrecordings.com> wrote:

Oh dear - sorry for multiple posts, but... I'm in full agreement regarding the Domu, but what's this Head to Toe/Dom Um Romao? I know the latter from some fine early 70s Weather Report so what's the connection with Broken Beat/Nu Jazz - or am I being incredibly stupid? All the best, Colin.

I just thought I would clarify in case there is some confusion Dom Um Romao isn't Dominic Stanton (Domu & Sonar Circle). I picked up this Dom Um Romao single a while ago, it's interesting but not nearly as good as I was hoping. --- Colin Buttimer <c.buttimer@mdx.ac.uk> wrote:

Dom Um Romao is a brazilian percussionist -- http://www.getmusic.com/AMG?artist=116767 He has worked with a wide variety of pop and jazz musicians through a long and brilliant career. A high point for me is the percussion on Weather Report album "Sweetnighter," which, if you search the archives, I periodically rave about on IDM, even if it is post-Miles fusion. I can believe something vaguely dance related with his name on it has come out at some point but I don't know to what you're referring... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey fuckwit - what are you being so rude for? Kent, Tom and co - thanks for the responses - being a 70s electric jazz phreak and interested in the Nu Jazz/Broken Beat musics I'm fascinated by this (probably slender) connection. Cheers, Colin.

It's the remixes which are the connection - Catalyst (aka Mustang), G-Force, Opaque (aka Seiji) and Nubian Mindz... Head To Toe looks like being quite a promising label, with the second release coming from Total Science (with a Hidden Agenda mix), followed by a Nubian Mindz 12" featuring a Psyan mix, and something from Kabuki... It's run by Frank Siccardi, who was involved with Archive in the early days I believe...
