picked up a 12" promo of a release by t.h.c. on intelligent (?) (san diego, ca label) and was wondering if anyone knew more about it... been sitting down at a local store for a while, picked it up for real cheap and real surprised that this was there... also, stopped by the local hip hop / dj store and asked about the wu tang vs funkstorung (vise versa, whatever) remix and : 1) realized that i'd never actually *said* 'funkstorung' before and actually really had no idea how to say it right off the top of my head... arg. 2) the dj / salespeople had no idea what i was talking about. 3) realized that i simply shouldn't go into such a place all dressed up like i was off to a job interview.... looked more ready to go to church than to be hanging there... mailorder, oh how i love thee.... anyhow... anyone know where i might score a copy??? thanks brap@sonic.net /// http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ [V/VM][blackdog] ETC-+/////////// C.Gosselin, 1547 Boston Court #7, Santa Rosa, CA 95405

THC is a mr. George Sarah from LA. He's been using the name for awhile now, and has a few different stlyes. He released a hardtrance CD titled "Consenting Guinea Pig", which he recorded at the Institute of Gismology (a.k.a. Q from Uberzone's Bedroom/Studio). After that he started doing drum n' bass and now has a vocalist nemaed Sarah. If you catch the whole THC deal live it incluedes George, Sarah & a string quartet. He's on a comp by k2k/mindspore called critical mass, which includes vocals. He also has two insturmental singles. He will also have an insturmental track titled "branded (Insturmental Mix)" on the forthcoming KUCI benefit CD, "Loraine". George also has a side project on hypnotic records along with Surface 10's Dean Debenidicts called Cathexis. -Daniel 9-5SuperSpy@kuci.org ============================================================================== Listen to "Space Disco for Fish Tacos", KUCI 88.9fm Wednesdays 8-10pm New Space Disco For Fish Tacos web site: http://www.kuci.org/~dbremmer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "We're not talking about music. Ha ha :-) Common problem : I have that every time I cough my way through "Autechre" (does that mean anything, btw?) Funkstorung comes frm the German (should have an Umlaut on the o, those two little dots) and roughly means something like 'interference in transmission'. "Funk" coming from "Funken" (spark) and is used to denote radio or wireless in general. Thus Funkstorung could loosely mean radio interference. Sorry, but I won't try a phonetic pronounciation guide. Here endeth the epistle ;-) I * np: Tortoise TNT

it means "these two guys from the uk who make fucking wicked music".

actually funk is a reference to the english word funk. stoerung means distortion (or interference, i suppose) so it's sort of funk-distortion or funky distortion. pronunciation? funk (like in english)-shtow (an american approximation, it's hard to say an umlauted letter unless you've studied the german language)-roong. sort of. np: metic "saurus" "a dream is worth a thousand pictures, the mouths of lampreys a thousand more..."

Maybe it is *now* - the English word "funk" in the musical context is far more recent than the German word Funk (which has long been used as a term for radio). Thus it's a clever pun or word play, but not a pure / correct translation.
quoted 1 line stoerung means distortion (or interference, i suppose)> stoerung means distortion (or interference, i suppose)
To be exact, Stoerung means "disturbance" (check the dictionary) (Mine is the Collins German-English-German, 9th edition, dd 1990)

Radio disturbance (we could carry on like this for ever, eh?!) The recent German v/a compilation compiled by Bernd Friendmann was titled "Deutscher Funk", had an image of a transistor radio on the cover and said in smaller print "German radio" below it (1997).
quoted 1 line pronunciation?> pronunciation?
