And don't forget the great lost Solaar performance on Urban Species' "Listen." Great rhythms, great lyrics (one of these days I'm gonna translate it so people around me can understand why I gush about it so often,) absolutely blows the english-speaking rapper away. Find it used. Enjoy it often. Just got the Lee Perry box last weekend... Nothing that really blew my mind (probably a good thing), in fact it hardly seems up to the other dub reissues I have: Augustus Pablo, Scientist, King Tubby, Keith Hudson, etc. Maybe I need to put in some more time on the thing (three discs is a lot to digest). Anyway, one of the best tracks is Perry's production of Max Romeo on "Me & the Devil" (title?). It's the track good 'ol Liam sampled for "Out of Space" ('I'm going to send him to outer space, to find another race...") In other news: Does anyone know if the new MC Solaar is going to get an American release? Is it worth getting, even at import prices? Also: I have to weigh in with what looks like the only positive Portishead review of the new single. It's no great leap forward, but the vibes are definitely there. Onnow: The Prodigy _Experience_ (an <Incredible> album no matter how geeky you claim to be)

On the American release tip, don't hold your breath. I don't have any inside skinny on what's going to happen, just instinct. It might come out in a few months, maybe. Maybe. As for whether or not the import's worth the $? Suffice it to say that it's a real departure from the previous stuff (except for one standout cut): i.e. wave terminal goodbye to DJ Jimmy Jay and the Serge Gainsbourg sampleriffing and say a serious non-stop hello to Zdar and Boom Bass of La Funk Mob -- these two hijacked Solaar completely, and most of the trax really sound as though our favorite MC is trapped inside a soundscape he can't really mesh with on a funky level no matter how hard he tries. Most of it's O.K. One track blows the roof off in that subtle Solaar stylee. hope this helps =-=-=-=signifier over signified signing off=-=-=-=
