I just got the IDM list Cd 'Threads' a few days ago, and I want to publicly say how much DAC Crowell's N.Am.Skywave blows me away. I recommend this CD to all here, those on the list who contributed music all did a fine job, for my taste there's not a weak track on it, and DACC's makes an excellent centerpiece. That relentless hypnotic beat with all that shit going on! Ooooh yeah-h-h-h. . . Way back in the day the band Weather Report recorded a track called "The Boogie Woogie Waltz" that had a similar feel to DACC's track. DACC may have heard this but his track is by no means derivative. When I hear N.Am.Skywave I think back to that track. But then also, Weather Report never had that 'squeeking basketball' sound on their stuff. The Tempest track is pretty great too. That's the stuff I heard pre-release, waiting for my copy from alan (the checkz in the mail d00d!). --------------------------------------------------------------------- Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new beauracracy -- Franz Kafka Kent Williams kent@inav.net (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

Yes yes yes, this comp does put a twinkle* in my text, it's here it's here! My instant favorite is "Mother G" by the Eevo Lute Educated TV-99-AD. Spontaneous yet expertly structured, I'm getting anxious for their full length effort! I promise a blow by blow review in the near future... yes, DAC is mind blowing and it is a shame that his presence in our scene has diminished during the last year. the best ingestion method for DAC is live, flat on your back in a chillout room staring at the ceiling with eye's rolled back. when DACC was still actively doing's PA's in the mw-r scene, he converged at several parties from st. louis to columbus to dayton and points in between. he utilized wicked audio techniques and a decent sized rack of silicon and vacuum tubes to lure entire room fulls of kiddies into an active sleep / hypnosis state between 5 and 7AM, and then would just walk away from his gear and watch them float. they would wake up, shake their heads, say sheeesh and wonder what happened. i feel sorry for the denny's waitresses that got to deal with them next. lie down and be counted -- DACC, come bacc. much respect to alan for pulling off 'threadz'. even though most of the tracks are > 12 months old by now (i think), it still is a very engaging comp, and all the tracks are good. makes you proud to be a lurker in the midst of all this great list talent. I second that big time. You're right about the age of the tracks, when I joined the list in Oct 94, we were just picking the artwork. The tracks were already in place! It is a solid vindication of the artists themselves that everything on this CD is still excellent, and while a lot of new sounds are coming on stream, nothing here sounds sadly dated. As for Alan, a big bold brave move, and one which will not be regretted from the artistic point of view. Lets hope not from the financial point of view either - I hope he can do it again one day. peace, I'm outa here James ^ __________ ________.__/_____ _||_/ James Skilton aka Steady J _[]/_____________[.__\____-_ DJ and Party Animal | | Part Time Hedonist |____________________________| Full Time Technohead |__|-' '-|__| Steady-J@Firefox.co.uk
