I have that sony stereo microphone lapel mic that requires phantom power
(a battery, or from the recording device).
I use it with my TCD8 DAT machine (that hasn't broken yet knock wood) and
find it to be fine for making recording shows and conversations. we
captured a very nice Legendary Pink Dots show to dat last summer i
believe.
