Yay. I'm listening to Radio right now. Keen, spooky stuff. I've had two different people step into my room to "make sure everything was OK." The whole hallway is rumbling with Autechre. I really like spotting samples from the past Gescom EPs, especially the beautifully mangled film dialogue twenty minutes into the piece. The shuffling violins from Snackwich, the breakbeat from Mag, the Key Nell chatter. Nice stuff. Greg - I'd really like to see more jams like this in the future. Especially RAC, Disjecta, Red Snapper and Jimi Tenor. Wonderful concept. I'm so happy I stayed up all night to listen to this.

There were a few posts about billy's new sound a while back. I was just hanging out in a co-workers office who has bad taste in music and leaves his radio on KROQ, LA's retro/alterni/bullshit station. Anyway, the dj (or whatever you call those idiots) came on and started talking about the Smashing Pumpkins. Very low in the background, they were playing photek or tpower (can't remember which one) and then they played a new track by billy C. It had a crunchy, distorted breakbeats ala 808/909, squelchy analogue synth-lines and lame ass vocals! The beats were pretty generic (read: boring), the distortion was only for a few seconds at the very end of the track and it sounded to me like a pretty weak attempt at electro. What the fuck is up with these dorks? They WANT to be cool by 'discovering' electronic music, but they refuse to let go of their precious vocals! And it's always a half hearted attempt, at that, since their all too busy doing what rock stars do (ie: getting laid, getting paid, doing 'bad' drugs and being assholes) instead of abusing knobs, pondering new forms of distortion and praying to the midi gods in a dark bedroom studio! The sad thing is people will still buy this shit because they are 'U2' or 'The Smashing Pumpkins'. Fuck 'em... word to the mothership, brockout np: James Brown - '20 all time greatest hits'

I don't have nearly as much to say as you did, other than the fact that I thought the new Pumpkins track ("Eye", avail on "Lost Highway") was brilliant. Yes, all rock music has suddenly become boring, but I found the last SP album (Mellon Collie) to be more than interesting, and I think Corgan has continued that with the new song. It may not be the best electronic song ever written, but I find it a lot easier to listen to than U2... (BTW, that makes two songs on the "Lost Highway" soundtrack following this so-called new trend: "The Perfect Drug", and "Eye". Anyone else find that weird?) +-------------------------+-------------------------------------+ | Ryan Visima | richard d james: aphex twin | | rvisima@astral.magic.ca | http://www.magic.ca/~rvisima/aphex/ | +-------------------------+----------------+--------------------+ | nine inch nails: the art of self destruction |Performa 6320CD | | http://www.magic.ca/~rvisima/nin/ |48MB/1.2GB/4xCD | +----------------------------------------------+----------------+

i thought the sp song was pretty good for what it was. it's not that brilliant or innovative, but anything that pushes america in a techno direction is fine with me. the soundtrack is good overall and works rather well, especially the orchestrated tracks, the only songs that need to be killed off are the rammstein songs, they just plain reek.
