Well indeed they're not.. Both are space/sci-fi obsessed as a rule, often derive their potency from the mesmerizing effect of continual repetion of slowly changing patterns (cf Steve Reich), and rarely impinge themselves on the mainstream press. Differences being, of course, a somewhat variant BPM, and generally mutually exclusive audiences who don't know what their missing. Does anyone know a record shop where you'd find `The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra' next to `777' and all those wonderful Suns of Arqa records (which are definitely IDM to me)? Geoff X.

Well, a couple times at the tower records in cambridge (what a popular place that is!), i have seen PWOG, sun ra, suns of arqa, 777 all in the same section (ie, either within the same column, or in the column next to it).... they are kinda lumped together there -John

On the Grid's album 456, the first song Turn and Face the Sun has Sun Ra doing vocals. It's pretty funny IMHO, a cool song (and album for that matter). [fletcher]

They are a little closer than one would expect. Sun Ra speaks on the first track on the Grid's 456. I pretty cool track, especially if you are into kind of a jazzy housey sound. -- Chris Fraser &:^) !
