I'd like to give a shout out for people who still pay for music, and a special shout out to people who still show up at shows. This week I've seen 1) Jason Forrest and Duran Duran Duran http://www.cockrockdisco.com 2) Euforquestra http://www.euforquestra.com/welcome/index.asp 3) Kim Chi http://www.kimcheerocks.com Out of which I have 4 CDs and a 12" bought from the artists. Sure I've got 60 gig of mp3s but I've definitely done my bit over the years for supporting musicians -- 4 or 5 thousand LPs, nearly a thousand CDs in heaps all over my house. I hope the idea of rewarding artists financially if you value their music hasn't gone completely out of style. PS Kim Chi's show is nice musically (techno-ey asia-pop new wave), and entertaining visually, and they're my homegirls so if you can check them out live: March 26:Minneaoplis,MN/First Avenue, 7th St. Entry, 10 PM March 27:Chicago, IL/South Union Art Space, 1352 S. Agreed. The reason I sell on eBay is to buy more. It is not now, nor never has been a money-making proposition for me - it's more of an addiction than anything. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

ditto. i make music but that doesn't mean i stopped listening or caring about other artists, or that i always just want to trade with them ot just download. mp3s just make me want to buy the release if the music is good. case in point, when some depeche mode single remixes came out recently i checked out the remixers' work and ended up ordering a metope album and an areal records comp. also got judith juillerat's debut on shitkatapult, good stuff! d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i just want to take this moment to say hooray for bleep.com. i used to download all sorts of stuff, but i got sick of the crap quality and queues and all that. now i just use bleep. they have nearly everything i'm looking for, be it idm, weird ass stuff, indie, downtempo, etc, and they've turned me on to all sorts of music i might never have heard of. i'm sick of the space all the vinyl and cds take up. once the conversion to digital format is complete, i will sell it all off to make room for more books (and when they come up with a suitable digital format for books, bye bye hard copies!). sound quality schmound quality, 10 years of djing has made me deaf enough not to notice. drive failure? dvd backups. cover art and liner notes? bah, most of it sucks these days. bleep has become my onestop shop. anyone have any other music sites they'd care to recommend? itunes and their drm can suck it. i don't share files, but i don't want to have to 'authorize' every damn device i play my tracks on (i use a lot of different devices). wow this kinda turned into a rant, didn't it? crazy. music: i like wisp's 'nthndr'. nothing groundbreaking, but nice tunes. 'congratulations' is often repeated. i also want more from s.t. 'emotions in a box' ep is grand, and i like the 'i'll meet you there' ep...how about a full album? k, i'm done. -z chthonic streams wrote:
