ive noticed that there are a lot of internet radio shows and podcasts that sort of fly around here. many of them have an open invite for submissions, but its not easy to keep track of them all. let alone all of the contact info. i was thinking that it would be nice to make an ongoing/updateable public list of them so that when a record gets released all you have to do is copy and paste the group of emails and send out links to your new work. im not yet certain of how to go about it though. here are a few options: 1. just keep passing around an email and hope that it stays updated 2. start a wiki 3. or start a little forum. with something like this: program link: http://opensolution.org/index.php?p=productsQuickForum actual view of the working forum: http://qf.ox.pl/forum.php ( with a redesign of course ) and keep it organized as best we can. oh and i can host it in a subdomain as long as i don't have to baby sit it too much. 4. if you can think of anything else let me know... the idea is to just have an nice easy tool for the idmlist [or anyone interested] that we can help keep current and functional, and have it available to everyone, individuals and labels alike. im pretty sure this can benefit everyone, especially the shows hungry for content. anyone have any thoughts about this. would you be willing to pitch in to keep it going? is this a stupid idea? has it already been done? oh and it would need a name too, any idea's? -- _______________________________________________ Outgun.com free e-mail @ www.outgun.com Check out our Premium services - POP3 downloading, e-mail forwarding, and 25MB mailboxes! These days I don't keep up with the IDM scene as much as I did back in 1999. I know since BoC has made it big a lot of people complain that too many groups try and sound like them or just plain rip them off. Who are these groups? Anyone have a link to a website or anything? i heard some tycho. once it gets released, it will get compared to boards of canada - irregardless of what else he does, and what he's after. its a shame theres a huge monolith of a placeholder around a specific type of sound, namely "what boc sound like" which is a lot of things. i thought tycho was well produced and conceived - but i know forumpeople/reviewers will be reaching for comparisons just to make their lives ez. I agree. The construct "what BoC sound like" is a composite of intersecting elements many of which are drawn from elsewhere, after all. An artist might conceivably arrive at a certain sound on a track that 'sounds like BoC' without ever having heard them before. Now they're so ubiquitous, the assumption is made that they are being copied. alan --On 30 October 2005 10:42 +0100 Esa Ruoho <esaruoho@gmail.com> wrote:

I'd be uncomfortable calling anyone a knock-off / ripoff - how about if we suggest similar sound palettes or structures are employed? Freescha comes to mind as does Run_Return. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it's so neat how ever so often a person/people will make a new sound that spawns a little tangent-genre... at first you can be angry at people that sound like them, but eventually they become a piece of the larger fabric, and that's not the case anymore. like, you can't even say "that bands a radiohead ripoff" anymore... they made a new kind of music, and it's no longer theirs, it's everyone's. i'm beginning to hear the animal collective's greater influence..
