i've decided it's time to figure out what the deal is with this japanese Onkyo genre, means 'reverberation' or something. super ambient electronic boredom... sounds lovely! it's a big thing, this onkyo, and am really looking for advice on some compilations to get me started, or sites, or artists in general. i'm pretty open to all ranges of sound (harsh to smooth), but prefer the smooth when it comes to purchasing, because i like to hear smooth more than once. any help would be super appreciated... i am kicking myself for missing that onkyo fest that went on in NYC this year... i love neina. they are a japanese super-ambient that released on mille plateux, i think. really, truly timeless, which you can't say for much on them old clicks n' cuts comps. also, if anyone is privy to any live showings of such things in nyc anytime soon, letme know, oi. also, if anyone knows any particularly good places to shop for such things in nyc that would be good too. kims has a japanese section, but it's not super extensive. _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? i first heard about this in the july 2003 issue of THE WIRE (with m. gira on the cover). a good article, i think, track it down if you can. in case anyone's interested, i also posted (and took pictures) on my blog about the onkyo marathon that took place here in NYC back in april: http://echoplex.blogspot.com/2005/04/sounds-of-silence.html d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Welcome to IDM-L. I, for one, appreciate your 'personal informations' :-) Could you suggest something from your shop (perhaps one of the compilations) which would provide some ideas of what kinds of things we'll find on your label? Maybe you could point us in some direction or other which would narrow the choices towards particular styles of electronic music for certain releases. Thanks. jeff

Cool! So would the stuff on Progressive Form be described as onkyo? Is there any sort of loose definition of what it is? *still quite confused* David This message has been checked for viruses but the contents of an attachment may still contain software viruses, which could damage your computer system: you are advised to perform your own checks. I don't listen to much of the stuff anymore, but I was following this "scene" more closely in the late 90s. Two sites (now huge) you should know about, if you don't already, are: http://www.japanimprov.com http://www.erstwhilerecords.com Not all "onkyo", but much to discover...

Kim's and Other Music are the obvious choices, but if you want bigger selection, and often better prices, buy online from: http://www.erstwhilerecords.com http://www.japanimprov.com/cdshop2/index.html http://mimaroglumusicsales.com etc. Ciao! -Patrick NP: Daara J - "Boomerang" OD: Tinariwen - "Amassakoul" --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
