From the current s://kimo list: KLF VS. RICARDO VILLALOBOS, THE: What Time is Love? 12" (BLAOU) $10.15 "It's finally starting, number one in an incredible remix series that will feature more than ten remix projects for the fabulous KLF. They were called The JAMS, The Timelords, The KLF, K Foundation und KLF Communications. Their hits 'What Time Is Love,' 'Justified & Ancient,' '3 AM Eternal,' 'Last Train To Trancentral' und 'Doctorin' The Tardis' dominated the Charts worldwide in the early '90s. Being the real pioneers of sampling they cultivated the art of the cut-copy-paste production style and they ruthlessly ripped and lifted whatever sound came their way. Remixes to come will include such artists as Deichkind, Dixon, M Schaffhäuser, Chris Liebing, Tobi Neumann starting now with Ricardo doing two amazing extra long mixes of 'What Time is Love' in his current minimal psychedelic hi-impact style." +++++++++++++++++++ anybody heard this yet? You should hear the flap on the KLF list about this. Nearly everyone who's posting (except me - I'm arguing with them...who would believe it? :-) considers it blasphemy. One guy has his panties in a bunch over some deemed ethical violation of calling it a remix if it doesn't sound enough like the original. I guess he's never heard Richard James' remixes and I guess he is the one who gets to say how much something has to resemble the original to make it a 'legitimate' remix. My position is that as long as some source material is used, the sky's the limit in calling most anything a remix. And as one sane listmember pointed out, this track has been remixed to death by the KLF themselves - time for something new imo. jeff -------------------------

Oh - if you haven't heard this, you should note that if you are some kind of KLF purist (which would seem to contradict what they are about anyway), you probably will not hear enough of the original to make you recall the days of yore. The KLF have left the building. :-) jeff theREALmxyzptlk wrote:

There is a KLF list .. let me at it! .. but If they are getting upset about a remix then we have lost our way in the wicked world of samples and revolution ' There was a enough heat on the decks for the guy promoting that event in Sydney last year as the KLF when all he had was Wanda B . .. Hmm .there are some major KLF fans here in NZ. I know one who went and found .. 'whats his name' in a cafe in London and offered to pay him a brick if he came to NZ to play . . But as you say . .KLF has left the building .. which was the point as I understand it. On the subject though, does anyone see any relationship between the Smashing Pumpkins video with the ice cream truck and all that paint .. and the KLF .. I always picked it as some obscure reference .. .simon theREALmxyzptlk wrote:

Hang on, so a bunch of KLF fans are getting angry about the ethics of remixing? *head -> desk* David -- "And then what do they do?" "Er, quadratic equations mostly, sir. yeah, i've been on the orb list since about '96 / '97 and I couldn't agree with you more. it's a shame really. i'll always love the orb, but i'm not going to defend their post-orblivion tripe. hopefully things will look up for them now that they are releaseing on kompakt and not island (which they've had alot of problems with anyway). but i never see them releasing another orbvs calliber album ever again. their komfort ep sounds was good, but didn't even stand out from the rest of the kompakt cataglouge enough to get my really grooving on it. se la vie, xenlab www.xnlb.com On 6/20/05, therealmxyzptlk@comcast.net <therealmxyzptlk@comcast.net> wrote:

There's not much to report really, Jimmy and Bill have a load of stuff that has never been released, not really my place to talk about it, but it's all very, very KLF - IMHO it hasn't aged well in some places but I've always loved the stuff they did. Haven't heard from Jimmy in a while, he was doing paintings last time I heard from him. Before that he had a project called BlackSmoke. I don't think any of the stuff will ever get released tho... One of the questions was if anyone has heard this as yet. I understand it doesnt sound much like the original (I wasn't a big fan of the original to be honest) but is it any good? The press sheet talks it up quite a bit with words like "greatly anticipated" and the like, but seriously - is this a series worth collecting? For my money, yes. If Villalobos is on the knobs, I'm buying. If you're looking for more straight-up KLF, you may think otherwise. As Thomas Touzimsky pointed out on the KLF list, they themselves have already mixed it up one side and down the other to death, so I'm ready for something completely different myself. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Really? When he first surfaced, I gasped in mighty admiration. I loved it all, even recently playing Easy Lee easily ten times in a loop on headphones - aaaah, bliss :-) But Thé Au Harem D'archimède left me utttttterly underwhelmed. Virtually not a good moment on it, even after close inspection. What am I missing? It's not that I have the attention span of a goldfish, but this stuff is seriously boring, to my ears at least. That wasn't his best work, but all in all, I still consider what he does 'buy on spot'. Certain artists need to show me a pattern of blowouts before I lose faith and RV has enough material which does it for me to cover a few 'sins'. Particulary in this genre, I tend not to pay nearly as much attention to the CD releases (and full length LPs) as I do the 12"s. It's odd, but the full lengths often have a different flavor to them (e.g., the Robag Wruhme, latest Ark on Perlon, etc.) jeff jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Boomkat (www.boomkat.com) have got a couple of audio samples up - only a minute or so long, but you can pretty much get the idea. There may be more elsewhere... I quite like the way that the only bit of the original that's immediately recognisable is the 'I wanna see you sweat" sample that they got into all the trouble for not clearing in the first place... David -- "And then what do they do?" "Er, quadratic equations mostly, sir. Fiendishly difficult ones by all accounts." I can't decide which of these statements is more retarded. -e --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
