Definitely; to my ear, at least, there's a lot of excellent material here for some trawling. I'm tempted to cut little samples of various tracks for a bleeply little tech-house track or something. Speaking of which, I was listening to Donna Summer this morning (the disco diva, not the later sound artist), and wondering about the various uses that have been made of her performances (and her producers' work). Some of her songs have been sampled or remixed so many times that they feel like a commonplace--something that you felt that you always knew, even though you can't remember when you first heard/saw it. "I feel love" is definitely a good example.. anyway, Luis ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Politics is parlor tricks." -W. Although not strictly electronic, György Ligeti is worth checking out as well, especially "Aventures" and "Atmospheres" (I think they have longer titles, but that's how I memorized 'em). Luis On Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at 11:51 AM, Nth 808 wrote:

True. I have to admit that I've always kept my distance from Boulez just because I had to read so much of his theorizing in my XXth cent. classes, but he really has done some interesting stuff, especially when you consider his contributions to IRCAM. Luis P.S. An acquaintance of mine had an amusing story of Boulez getting locked into the rare book room (which is airtight) at the Schoenberg Archiv in Switzerland. Apparently, he was nonplussed. P.P.S. While we're listing musique concrete and avant-classical composers, it's probably worth mentioning Steve Reich. He's not as wild as Cage and not as austere as La Monte Young, but he's also the most accessible. "It's Gonna Rain", "Come Out", "Two Pianos" and "Drumming" are all amazing.
