Just gotta say, that album title is fucking brilliant... -- The best show killed by Cartoon Network/Adult Swim: Home Movies. Yes. Cancelled after the 4th season. They are showing it in re-runs. You probably saw the 3rd ep of season 1, back when the show was in Squigglevision, like Dr. Katz. A lot of the same people worked on both shows - same production company. As for why it was killed? Adult Swim ain't got no soul no mo. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well.. I've been kinda weirded out by the internet and crowds of people in general for the last few years... occasionally tried to revisit the magic of 97-2000-era IDM-l on a couple of web boards, but I kept getting flamed for using too many sentences in my posts. Then I stumbled on the "We Are The Music Makers" bulletin board on-line and got a little taste of what I had missed--- it's a sweet community there, extremely friendly by modern web-community standards, nerding out on sweet beats. But I dunno, for whatever reason I just feel like email lists feel a little more personal, more like a secret meeting of wizards and less like the web-bb vibe of a bunch of kids hanging out in the Denny's parking lot or whatever. And more than that, the state of music just feels so similar to how it was in the mid-90s when I first got into IDM, when there was so much samey-sounding rock and rap that all seemed way more concerned with speaking to huge amorphous crowds of people with disposable income and not so interested in speaking to an intelligent, modern individual. Plus, it seems like the paragons of IDM are turning out some of the most exciting tracks of their careers (Ie: Aphex, Ae, Vladislav, Pan sonic, Matmos, Hrvatski)... I've been agitating in the Baltimore music scene for more IDM awareness, and it seems to be going surprisingly well. I was asked by a group of kids from the art school to lecture about techno at the Contemporary Arts Museum, and I did a 90-minute long talk about discovering Skam, MAS, Phthalo, Raster-Noton, Mego, etc., in the pre-Myspace/Pitchfork days and shockingly (to me, at least), something like 40-50 people came and most of them seemed to get something out of it. The noise, indie rock, and trendy dance (MIA and mash-ups and 8bit remixes and whatnot) scenes seem to be exploding with new bands who are incorporating elements of electronic music into their sets, but who somehow (usually because they're just young) completely missed the IDM explosion of the mid-late 90s, and as a result don't really have much respect for electronic music. On the other hand, there are some deeply knowledgable dudes in town, as well-- like Jason Urick, who was an OG IDM-lister and co-ran the Once.Twice festival which brought a ton of sweet glitchmasters to my town a few years back. His band, Wzt Hearts, is a Pita-meets-the-Boredoms laptop/guitar/drums/table quartet that's already put out two pretty stellar records. Anyway, I'll be writing up all the IDM-related events in Baltimore like some kind of futuristic Lance McGannon. -rk On Dec 3, 2007 8:34 PM, Shimone @ StaticBeats <shimone@staticbeats.com> wrote:

Saturday night, Drew Daniel's solo project Soft Pink Truth played a warehouse space in Baltimore and oh my god, twas incredible. There were some worries that the soundsystem was buckling under the noisy, noisy beats of opener Food For Animals (rap group with absolutely evil production... even harsher than Dalek, closer to MAKING ORANGE THINGS, actually...) one of the speaker stacks was lighting up from within and all that... but Drew rolled over the crowd like a bulldozer with non-stop thump. I personally haven't really danced in probably two years, I mostly just people-watch and gossip and shit, but SPT's set was just too damn funky. I got my head-bob on something fierce. And the best part is, homeboy LIVES in Baltimore now, so next Sunday I'm going to see Matmos in a 50-capacity room that's like 5-minutes from my front door (by bike!) I will give a more detailed report of this show to the list, I have a feeling it's going to be historic. Did anyone ever see them with Bjork on Letterman that one time? Holy shit, IDM owned network television harder than any other band since Prince pwned Dick Clark on American Bandstand. -freshwell "i am a copier"
