Yeah, those new Priuses(?) Priiiiiii(?) Toyota Hybrids are pretty nice. Too bad gas prices are going back down. Hate to see all the H2 owners getting some relief. ObIDM: That new Blockhead disc on Ninja Tune is pretty nice. Some serious summer jams on there, and I can easily see Insomniac Olympics on a mix CD in the near future. if hummer gave me enough money to sit on my ass and not drive anywhere, ever and just make music i'd do it. i would just pay people to carry me around, my guilt at working for hummer would be assuaged by my bed made of money and many helpful servants. On Mon, 21 Jun 2004 11:43:54 -0500, hime wrote

not that I'm suggesting the hummer's mileage is remotely comparable to any hybrid's, but I thought this was interesting reading when I first saw it... http://www.wired.com/news/autotech/0,2554,63413,00.html I can't believe this hummer talk hasn't degenerated into 8th grade humor. amazing. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

then you're a fucking idiot. oh wait, do you believe that artists should just make their music purely for the love of it, and not pay their rent? so fucking what if the guy wanted to get paid? This is hardly moby. Mark Bell has been plugging away at this shit for years for very little reward in the grand scheme of things. the man deserves to get paid. anyway, it's very unlikely that he personally had anything to do with it. if you're going to get rid of all your music, just cause it sits under a 20 second commercial, you're a chief. funny lot you pale faced idm boys aren't you? you sit around bitching about how no one understands the music you listen to, and then just when a track breaks through into a more mainstream market (which might, just, switch a few people onto quality tunes who wouldn't not otherwise have access to it), you dash it down screaming 'sell out', as if the artist is making tunes purely for your pleasure. i hope i never get to the stage when i'm judging music based on how exclusive it is to this pissant little scene. .: ----- Original Message ----- From: "folk devil" <folkdevil_23@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, June 21, 2004 5:19 PM Subject: RE: [idm] Hummer video...

Hey, don't paint all us pale faced idm boys with the same "wanker" brush. Personally I think there is a line across which the cries of "sellout" are justified but it's a long, long way to go from getting a track picked up for an advert to (just to pick a hypothetical example at random) having your track in a car ad, driving the car from the ad in your video and putting a sticker on the album cover that says "as seen in the ad!" In the first case the selling is incidental to the music, in the second the music is almost an afterthought to the selling... -- Eric Sorenson - EXPLOSIVE Networking - http://explosive.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

if you get big and your still doing your thing than I think it's cool. i.e. like hip-hop which brought a different musical culture into top 40 radio and then became something wholly different as money came in. If you get big because you change your sound so easy listening audiences and justin timberlake fans like it and you sell more records then you've lost it. but as this list has proved, idm fans come in a lot of varieties including easy listening. What's funny is reading about studios in the 60s and the 70s Most of the hippie rock of the 60s was a series of bands created by studios because they needed a new product, it was remarkably hard for musicians outside of the studio system (i.e. actual bands) to get signed. peace, A

although I hardly doubt there is a shortage of folks here that would slam any artist/label that sold a track for a commercial, in this case, I assume the uproar is caused more over the actual product and the politics surrounding it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

my ford focus does just slightly under that on the highway. in-city, it gets *considerably* less. but it came with a cd player so I can play lfo on the go. our previous toyota corolla (think that's what it was), got better than 40 on the highway when we went cross country... can't recall what it got in town, but was much better than the ford. it didn't have a cd player so no lfo on the go. lots of cassette's of 80s bands.

60 in city, 51 on highway according to the toyota website. ymmv indeed! our old toyota corolla got 30ish in city, 45+ on the highway. although it didn't have a cd player so no listening to lfo on the go and no bluetooth option. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

*sigh* That old gag. Anybody heard of YMMV? Nobody gets EPA rated mileage on their car, and if they say they do, they're probably lying. Few people pay attention to mileage on their cars at all. The hybrids just make you do it. The catch is, if you drive like a leadfoot and ignore the fact that the numbers suck, the numbers will continue to suck. That and the EPA testing is done under ideal weather, AC off, and does not reflect real driving conditions. Oh yeah, and then they get the mileage off the TAILPIPE EMISSIONS. a good one to play might be the brinkmann tour de traum. after mr klein recommended it a few weeks back (thanks), I downloaded it to give it a listen. very nice indeed. I was banning brinkmann releases because I saw a picture of him talking to someone wear a pair of nike sneakers, but I think I might sell my soul and break down and pick this one up. a very nice mix. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
