John Peel just played a track from the Rephlex Grime compilation, which sounded moderately interesting. A few questions: Is the comp out yet, or when is it due? What does the rest of it sound like? And in a more abstract vein, are Rephlex actually at the heart of an urban yoof phenomenon (as their website rather implies) or are they releasing (good and interesting) records that are derived from but don't actually affect the 'sounds on the street'? Thanks David ps sorry if this was the flavour of the month last month. I've only just returned to the list: I tried to RTFArchives, but they seem to have vanished. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Grime is pretty dead in London at this point. Even the 2-step people aren't into it anymore. Now that Rephlex is jockin it, there will probably be some interest again, but I'm sure even that will be short-lived. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ... But are Rephlex doing the straightforward variant (dead or not)? I'd assumed they'd be releasing something mad but grime derived, in the same way that most of their 'acid' releases would sound out of place on a label like Flying Rhino.[1] So whether a Rephlex Grime comp is any good would be more or less independent of the general state of the stuff. I've heard good stuff from some of the people who seem to be involved, but it didn't sound like the stuff that would be 'in' with a mainstream London crowd at any point. David [1] or if I'm misinformed, whoever does release acid techno these days. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The album isn't out yet but from the limited stuff that I've heard on BBC it sounds pretty mainstream. The tracks from Markone and Plastic Man are getting alot of airtime on the various garage shows on 1Xtra. Femme Fatale had Markone in for an interview and they were talking about the upcoming Rephlex compilation. To quote her from the show.. "So this compilation is going to be released on Rephlex Records. What label is that then ?" Talk about being clueless. -Marc

This gets my vote for the most trendoid comment of the year so far. Add extra "insipid" points for not filling us in on what the latest trend is, but I guess that wouldn't be very underground of him to reveal what an exciting future the rest of us will have once the cool people pull the toothpicks out of their asses. -e --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Wow, and that's the most bile-filled response I've ever gotten to an innocuous post. Thanks. -- :: atomly :: [ atomly@atomly.com : www.atomly.com ...
