For some reason, the same idea springs up multiple places -- I was just reading an interview with Roger Mcguinn in TapeOp and he was wondering why the major labels don't point out more often that MP3s don't sound as good as CDs. By the way: http://www.tapeop.com/ Tapeop is a truly great magazine, if you have any interest at all in how music is recorded. Current issue has an interview with Hrvatski! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Probably because the majority of major-label music is heard through radio, which has a much worse quality compared to mp3. If they say "it's worse than CD," the argument that "It's a lot better than radio" would also be valid. It is now, of course, but it's not really part of the arguments being used. Since radio play is essentially the same according to the record execs, having even a "not exactly cd quality" mp3 copy is pretty much just as bad. derek ------- eggytoast.com - eggtastic.com ------- it's in your grocer's freezer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's crucial for the labels' 'anti-piracy' litigation strategy to push the story that MP3s are 'CD-quality' and each one downloaded is the equivalent to stealing the song in physical form. John
