Probably because the majority of major-label music is heard through radio, which has a much worse quality compared to mp3. If they say "it's worse than CD," the argument that "It's a lot better than radio" would also be valid. It is now, of course, but it's not really part of the arguments being used. It's crucial for the labels' 'anti-piracy' litigation strategy to push the story that MP3s are 'CD-quality' and each one downloaded is the equivalent to stealing the song in physical form. John
