As stupid as this is it doesn't really affect anyone since all of the major (and some minor) companies that develop products using mp3 technology seem to own a license of some sort. I don't think that anyone had anything to do with this except for Fraunhofer Gesellschaft who want to make money off of their patent, can't really blame them but can't really help thinking that it's messed up either. If anything its just going to affect the price of any products using mp3 technology. yes, which ends up coming right back on us. kinda like how the riaa complains about file sharing then has a hand in raising the price of cdr's, but continues on complaining.bs or mpaa saying if you gives us the digital act we will make good things happen and then poof nothing.bs i think the riaa needs to be put down like the dog it is. of course that is all up for debate. i am just sick of some drama happening like this all the time lately. anyway stop the rant d

in canada they forced a tax on blank cd-r and drives that write them. in the states they are trying very much to do the same and have done so with 'audio' cdr used by some stand alone systems. the software and business industry has done well so far in keeping the tax at bay as the vast majority of cdrs are not used for music purposes. the bigger threat, as it were, is laws to require DRM built into all consumer electronics. not sure how effective such laws would be, legislating technology has never been very successful in the past (witness the worldwide region code DVD failure.) b.
