As stupid as this is it doesn't really affect anyone since all of the major (and some minor) companies that develop products using mp3 technology seem to own a license of some sort. I don't think that anyone had anything to do with this except for Fraunhofer Gesellschaft who want to make money off of their patent, can't really blame them but can't really help thinking that it's messed up either. If anything its just going to affect the price of any products using mp3 technology.
