If anyone has taken IDM into the mainstream it's Bjork. Seeing her perform with Matmos on David Letterman was a real eye opener for me. Personally I love it. Mark Bell, Thomas Knak, Matmos, Plaid, and Herbert have all collaborated/produced with her over the span of her last two albums. That's quite a cast.

Tigerbeat 6, Kompakt, and just about any Japanese label make completely amazing music, and yet people seem to think that AE and Radiohead are still pushing the edge by doing the same thing they've been doing for the past four years. NIN used the most boring DX7 noises around and I hate his whiny vox, yet people still love him to death. The IDM list discusses hip hop and rock acts almost twice as much as it discusses actual electronic music, yet I still subscribe. Discuss. Tom P.S. Radiohead's music is prog rock all over again and you know it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You are going to dismiss the entire genre of progressive rock in one sentence??? Whatever. Prog rock is just that, progressive Rock. That means they were trying to push limits and expand what was possible. Without that music, none of this elect. stuff is possible. See, you actually need to LEARN about stuff before you just start spounting off nonsense.. Donna S

As far as I am concerned, Cluster invented 'IDM' in 1978 with the album 'Zuckerzeit.' As well as Hosono and Yokoo with 'Cochin Moon' in the same year... Prog-rock indeed... -- ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^- omz beautamous loaf recordings http://www.hotweird.com/loaf/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
